ANDREW WALLING 1B-LHP 6’3” 205 B-L/T-L LONGVIEW, WA. – R.A. LONG HS
Andrew Walling had an exemplary high school and summer baseball career. In spite of injuries interrupting the final year and a half of his prep career, Walling managed to set records, achieve honors and awards,
then demonstrate team leadership while on the shelf. Walling had a promising high school career as a LHP with 4 quality pitches including an 88-89 mph fastball during the summer following his Sophomore year. He was at times dominant and earned an Area Code Games Co-MVP award with Jared Kelenic, the Waukesha, WI. Slugger taken with the 6th pick in the '18 draft by the New York Mets, at the conclusion of the A/C 2017 World Series. A 3-time All GSHL-2A selection, 3 time Columbian All SW Washington choice and a first team All State 2A selection by the AP-SeaTimes. Walling is also a top hitting prospect with a high level power projection. A left handed hitting first baseman, Walling has a long, flowing stroke that produced some towering home runs in high school. With a good glove, a plus arm and lofty batting averages with power, Walling was climbing draft boards quickly prior to his August of 2017 injury. Following a long summer of pitching, Walling required Tommy John surgery in early September of 2017. He missed all three sports in his final year at R.A. Long HS in Longview. During his Junior season at RA Long, he began having some back problems. Then came a good summer and the elbow issue. Scouts were equally divided on his future – on the bump or at 1B. Having TJ surgery in high school is not a favorable development and may have tipped the scale for OSU this fall – he’ll start out at 1B when he can play again. High character kid, outstanding student with a perfect 4.0 GPA and National Honor Society. Played summer baseball for Seattle-Chaffey, Baseball NW Elite 18u, Royals Area Code Team and competed in the prestigious New Balance Future Stars series. Ranked #160 nationally, ranked #295 by Perfect Game and both were following the injury. A key member of OSU’s 2018 class.
