Usually like to tune in and watch. I turn it on and in the space of a half inning Mike Trout is mic up in the outfield, Kemp doubles then does a selfie with the infield then the SS.
wtf? Carlton Fisk would KTA.
sorry I can't watch that abomination. Off to look for a movie with Clint in it

It was begun in the 30's as a way to publicize the game in the days before regular radio broadcasts and long before TV. And of course the leagues were very separate and only ever played each other in the World Series and the All Star Game. It was a unique event. I don't think it really adds anything to the sport nowadays and has outlived its original function.

I tuned in for one inning and they spent more time talking to players in the field than actually showing the game, it was painful. It was like watching Entertainment Tonight, which gives me a splitting headache. The production appeared to be a series of interviews with an occasional play thrown in, no real play-by-play just a stream of blabber from announcers falling over themselves to praise players that can't hit .300. Then again, anything broadcast on Fox has a way of being over produced in my opinion. It was fluff and advertising for the MLB brand and players. Granted I have no idea who most of these players are anymore, so it was boring to watch, changed the channel to the Blazer summer league game, that's how bad it was.

I did catch the last few innings and it looked like the stadium staff got a bit bored and slipped in the home run derby baseballs left over from the night before.

I'm still chapped about that. The end of that game was going to be epic. Every fielder thinks they can pitch. Every pitcher thinks they can hit. Throw a Steve Lyons out thereand see what happens

I was very entertained. Far better than the usual 2-1 or 3-2 ASG snoozefest.
Times have changed since 1970. Very few pine for the days of the reserve clause, no free agency and $10K salaries.

I watched with my son, and we very much enjoyed the game. I was slightly annoyed that it was HR or nothing, but it's not like the pitchers were out there serving it up. Scherzer was throwing HARD - you could hear the grunts on every pitch he threw. The interviews with the outfielders were great I thought - Charlie Blackmon's dry sense of humor was really entertaining, and the enthusiasm Francisco Lindor has for the game was infectious. The cell phone stuff was a bit much and I didn't care for it, but I'm guessing that younger fans who follow MLB players like Manny Machado enjoy seeing the pics they took on the field and might be more inclined to tune into a game in the future because of that.
As for not ending the game in a tie, yes ties suck, but again it's an exhibition game. As far as exhibitions go, I think it's hard to beat the MLB All Star game. It's certainly better than the Pro Bowl, and the NBA game is basically outtakes from that Uncle Drew movie.
