Kennedy Brown had the following to say about Scott Rueck's vision for her playing at OSU in the article below from March 17, 2018 when she officially narrowed her list of collegiate suitors to seven: OREGON STATE Relationships have been paramount with Brown’s ties to the Beavers. After joining the Oregon State coach staff in 2016, assistant Katie Baker’s first recruiting contact was with the Derby junior. Since then, the Beavers have won a Pac-12 regular season championship (2016-17) and become one of preeminent threats in the conference. “Scott Rueck, the head coach at Oregon State, already has a vision for me and hearing what he thinks I can achieve,” Brown said. “It’s really comforting and makes me want to do that so much more.” The Beavers have reached the NCAA Tournament five-straight years and reached the Sweet 16 in back-to-back years as well. That includes a Final Four appearance in 2016. www.derbyinformer.com/sports/brown-announces-her-final-list-of-schools/article_71fb124a-2a04-11e8-8d47-6339589588c9.html

There are a few positives I gleam from these articles. First, I think it has to be cool for a recruit to know that you were the first contact for Katie Baker. Second, it has to be assuring that the head coach already has a vision for you and what you can achieve. Thirdly, reading from the Derby Informer, Kennedy played for both Jeff Walz and Cori Close this summer, and her only comment was "it was interesting to see them in action". At least there was no signs of her being enamored with either of them. Fourth, Walz and Close played a role in her being cut from the national team. That can't hurt can it? Lastly, she spent a lot of time this summer with Beaver commit Taylor Jones.
Even with those positives, it's still a long road ahead for the Beavs hopes of landing her. You have to wonder with Taylor's commit and AA and PM just a year ahead of her, how hard will the coaches go after her, and how will Kennedy feel with all those bigs already on board for the Beavs? Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to seeing who the next commit will be.

Good points, rmancarl! I think that we have a lot going for us with Taylor Jones committing - our next wave of bigs includes one of Kennedy's close friends. We also have a good track record brewing with the fact that we have (for the last 4-5 seasons, and likely for many to come) been one of the last 8 or so teams playing - no worse than Louisville, and likely better than UCLA. I also caught (perhaps imagined on my part) some subtext to where being close to Close and Walz might have opened Kennedy's eyes to how, uh, excitable those coaches are. (National television established that Walz has a salty vocabulary, for example) and I think the fact that SR probably doesn't drop F-bombs at the drop of a hat and has a calm demeanor means something to Kennedy, and folks of that ilk, because SR is thought of at least as highly in terms of coaching acumen, and he comes with fewer rough edges. Lastly, we have sent our recent bigs to the WNBA, and those bigs didn't even start out with the cred and standing that Kennedy and Taylor come with...... We also will have a roster of post players where you get better every day, though you might not clock as much game time as some other programs, unless you surpass that aforementioned roster of bigs.... Kennedy also hails from a small town, so unless the "bright lights, big city" thing is big for her, Corvallis might also have attraction for her. I think we have a really good shot if we make her shortlist of 3 visits. Go Beavers!

Might be unlikely she takes a visit here and doesn’t also take one to TSDTR, unless she really has much more interest in one program than the other. She would be behind a ton of talent at Baylor. (2 or 3 strong posts a year above). If anyone follows Raoul on twitter, he had something really interesting to say about Louisville today (they are in a ton of girls finals with only a few spots remaining). I think we have a really good shot!

Of course, if Kennedy becomes a Beav then we can kiss our chances at Brink good-bye. Choices choices.

Of course, if Kennedy becomes a Beav then we can kiss our chances at Brink good-bye. Choices choices. Brink is a huge longshot. I don't see that happening, regardless. I agree. You can't pass on quality recruits on the possibility of getting one later. Especially since we haven't even heard of we are on her list.

Since we are talking Kennedy, here's a quote from Premier Basketball. although they accidentally listed her in the 2020 class,
Kennedy Brown (2020) – Continues to add to her game.. Has become a force on the glass. A player with her size that is such a great passer and understands and communicates the game so well is rare.. She stretches the D with the ability to knock down the perimeter shot as well as drive the ball from the HP. She takes pride in the fact that she can guard a smaller opponent on the perimeter – she gets in stance and uses her length to keep them in front and challenge any shot they may take. The strength on the block is improving… great stamina for a big.

Reading Louisville’s Blog, Walz’s World, they may have dropped out of the race for Kennedy Brown. This leaves Us, Oregon, Baylor, UCLA, and Oklahoma.
She seems like she wants to go somewhere where she can win, and Oklahoma won’t really offer that.
Baylor brings in the number 1 2018 class ahead of her (has two bigs both of which were very highly ranked)
I think UCLA and Oregon will be our biggest competition

I still like our chances of Kennedy becoming a Beaver.
Her remaining schools are all over the board. Other than winning, sorry Oklahoma, they have very little in common.
There is a semi out of control coach from waco or should it be wacko.
Another coach that also likes to yell. This one has had amazing players but has been unable to get them to play to their potential.
A coach that has issues with leadership, he is regularly second guessed by at least one of his coaching staff and one player. Often times in public during games.
A coach that sees himself as a teacher first. He had been able to regularly coach his players up to a level no one thought possible. A person that is comfortable and confident enough to allow his players to take a leadership role in both practice and games.
And then there are the cities the universities are based in. Not much in common there either.

I really think the only downside is the fact that we will have a few bigs ahead of her in terms of years. Kennedy has said numerous times she was to be a stretch-4 in college, the same position Corosdale and possibly Aquino play. Then you have Morris who is a true 5, as well as Jones who ESPN categorizes as a “finesse-5”. Each player is very unique among each other in terms of size, skill set, and what they bring to the table, but we can probably have only 2 or at most 3 in the game at once.

I think it's obvious the Beavers have invested a lot in recruiting Kennedy, and that Kennedy has a real interest in the Beavers. If I had to guess, I would put the Beavers in her top 3. If Cori Close made an impression at the USA trials, they may be tough to beat. Twitter signs that Kennedy has interest in the Beavers include the fact that Kennedy follows pretty much every Beaver WBB coach. This includes Scott Rueck, Katie Baker, Brian Hlosinger, Coach Ely, and Kendall Knotz. I have not seen any other recruit that follows all those coaches. She also follows Destiny Slocum, Maddie Washington, Katie McWilliams, Sydney Wiese, and the OSU WBB twitter as well as Taylor Jones, and several of her family members. None of this means Kennedy will sign with OSU. In fact, I agree that she may have concerns with the number of young 'bigs' in the Beaver program. This does show that she has interest, and I would hope we see her on an official visit in August. Every indication is that she would fit in very well in this program. Hopefully the coaches can get Kennedy to see how well she would fit.
