8 team field - -a VERY impressive collection of National Programs. I've heard nothing from OSU about this tourney, but the website makes it sound like a done deal.... All games to be played in Vancouver (B.C.) convention centre...
The 4 team Men's part of the program is interesting, but not nearly as impressive as the Women's venue... (South Carolina, UWK, Gonzaga, OSU, - -plus 4 more)
This is about the best mainland preseason WBB tourney I can remember..... I'm in....

Some additional info - -I'm a bit disorganized today !!
"The eight-team women’s tournament will tip on Thursday, Nov. 22 and feature a bevy of teams that competed in last season’s NCAA Tournament. Pac-12 power Oregon State, whom advanced to the Elite Eight, Missouri Valley champion Drake, Conference USA champion Western Kentucky, WCC champion Gonzaga and 2017 NCAA National Champion South Carolina will be among the teams in the field."
“The women’s field for the inaugural Vancouver Showcase is second-to-none in terms of talent and quality programs,” said Howard Kelsey, co-tournament director and co-founder of the CDN National Teams Alumni Association. “The local fans are going to be able to come see Hall of Fame coaches, championship teams and future pros all at the Vancouver Convention Centre.”

More info - - "The men’s and women’s tournament will be played under the iconic sails of the Vancouver Convention Centre. The Convention Centre’s exhibition space in its East building will be transformed into a 3,000-plus seat venue, complete with portable bleachers, portable floor, goals (baskets), and video boards to provide a first-class fan experience at every game. The action tips with the men’s tournament on November 18-20 to be followed by the women’s tournament on November 22-24." ------ A 3,000 seat venue is a GREAT idea....The empty barn in Vegas in 2016 was an embarrassment....

Interesting, thanks for the info. On the website, it sounds like the 8 men's teams play only to the championship of each 4 team bracket, while the 8 women's teams play all the way to an overall champion. Each women's team plays 3 games in 3 days, so I think there will be one 3-0 team (over all champ), three 2 and 1 teams, three 1 and 2 teams, and one 0-3 team. Very unusual.
Also, even though 3 women's team and 4 men's teams are yet to be determined, there will be no Canadian teams I guess, since USA vs Canadian teams would only count as exhibition games.
Sounds like a fun weekend...have to give it serious consideration for attendance!

Somebody hijacked the other's mascot. Question: Since these games are played outside the US, do they not count against some kind of NCAA limit on number of games played?

Thanks for the info / research 411500, and I see the WKU Lady Toppers are on the list (our 1st round opponent , NCAA Tourney) so we get to see their bizarre mascot again !

Bummer that this is held during Civil War week in football for those wanting to actually attend both. Sigh.

I attended the OpenStack Summit at the Vancouver Convention Centre just a couple of years ago. It is a very nice venue (for a conference, at the very least), right on the water front, and downtown Vancouver is a happening place as well - nice to see the city host such a tournament. I would go to Vancouver well before I would consider a trip to Las Vegas to see the Beavers in a hoops tournament. I stayed just a few blocks away at the Fairmont Hotel, which is a very nice "old school" hotel with very nice atmosphere and architecture - the antithesis of the sterile chain hotels my company usually puts me up in. Highly recommended. If we weren't headed up to Vancouver next month for a family vacation, I would consider going then, though weather at that time of year would be a bit of a deterrent.
Go Beavers!

I'm totally psyched for this tourney, but, in fairness, it does have a few strikes against it.
1. Game Day #1 is U.S. Thanksgiving; 2. The entire weekend is a BIG college football weekend; 3. Vancouver is a pricey city - -but Nov. prices are not that bad... 4. Probably looking at rainy weather.
On the other hand, it has some really good basketball things going for it:
1. 8 teams competing, with at least 5 being really solid programs. (It will be interesting to see who the final 3 teams will be. I have the feeling it MIGHT be 1 or 2 Canadian teams - probably Simon Fraser or UBC...This would reduce costs and improve attendance). 2. South Carolina !! It looks to me like the Beavs have a 50-50 chance of meeting the 2017 National Champs on Friday night. Got to admit it's hard to find a better preseason game than that. Personally, I'd drive to Vancouver just to watch South Carolina & OSU go at it. 3. 3 full days of WBB in one location. Where else is that possible in November?
Accommodations: 2ndGenBeaver mentioned the Fairmont Hotel in the previous thread. Helpful to consider is the fact that the Pan Pacific is literally the on-site hotel for the tourney. Stay there and you'll never need to drive to any of the games (or pay for parking).
GO BEAVS !!💡🏀

I was in Vancouver the past few days so I popped into Pan Pacific Hotel to check it out.
Several important things worth noting...
1. Convention Centre East (where the games will be played) is on the PPH grounds... You can walk indoors to ALL basketball games....No need to leave the building !! 2. Underground, secure Parking is expensive - BUT Pan Pacific currently offers a very attractive package for Oregon & Washington residents (about $270 CDN per night) which includes free parking... 3. there is an abundance of budget food available without leaving the Pan Pacific complex...A large food court.... 4. Of course, there are 4* restaurants within the Pan Pacific.... 5. The general area is downtown, waterfront..Nice. New. 6. My main concern (not everyone's) was finding a place to stay where you don't have to drive, take a taxi or public transit to get to the games; that has good food AND inexpensive food readily available....The Pan Pacific suits the bill perfectly, but it is expensive.... The Fairmont (across the street) is almost as convenient, but I cannot find a package that includes parking - maybe someone else can. 7. The Vancouver Sky Train final stop is just one block from where games are played (Waterfront Station). So public transit to and from the game is easy if your hotel is near a station...Sky Train is cheap, clean and fast...
Just a few general pointers on convenient accommodations before I forget..... GO BEAVS !!

I spent a weekend in Vancouver about a month ago. Yaletown has ton of cool restaurants and bars. I recommend the The Flying Pig and the Yaletown Brewing Company. Stayed at The Douglas near BC Place, what they call the Parq area. Super nice hotel, part of Marriott. thedouglasvancouver.com/www.mjg.ca/yaletown/theflyingpigvan.com/
