This is so disappointing to me. I don't think you have to be "mature" to select Oregon State. The idea that any kid that picks a school other than OSU is only chasing free swag or are looking for a handout is absurd and makes OSU look pretty petty. Especially when I've heard her numerous times take Riley to task for telling kids to "sleep on their decision" and not feel pressured to commit just because he's in the room.....you know, do the mature thing and not make an emotional decision.
I can't prove it, but I'd guess she was pretty complimentary of the VFC upgrade and talked about how it was going to be a game changer for garnering recruits. If we're trying to attract kids with our own version of the bling, then how are we better than all those schools who we claim to hate? Are we just trying to attract immature kids now? Did she ever comment on Gary Andersen's use of custom edits to woo kids or how Oregon State suddenly broke out battleship grey helmets and "11 Strong" jerseys and promoted its jersey selection every week with CGI videos and did everything it could to promote how much swag and cool stuff we had? It just seems incredibly tone deaf to me to tweet this out.
She mentions Brandin Cooks as a kid who turned down the bling of UCLA for Oregon State - UCLA had an 80 yard practice field at the time Cooks was recruited...their commitment to football has always been a problem. UCLA also introduced the Pistol offense the year before Cooks committed as they showed more of a commitment to running the football. Was it a mature decision by Cooks to decommit from UCLA and come to OSU? Probably, but I don't think it had anything to do with "bling." It had to do with finding an offense that better fit his skill set and a play at a school that had featured undersized WRs like James Rodgers and Sammie Stroughter recently.

** Rant mode ON ** The "You have to be mature enough" line smacks of a passive aggressive backhanded compliment... Which totally lines up with Machados character in my mind Kind of bad timing too... A week before signing day is not a great time to be casting any shade on the TEAM YOU ACTIVELY MAKE MONEY OFF OF. It's got to be better for her business when OSU does WELL in recruiting, and while she may think this tweet encourages guys to come to OSU it reads way more like a " Complisult" I also for the life of me can not understand the line of reasoning that goes... Whelp... We don't have what Phil Knight U has so.... WE MUST BE SUPER POOR AND ALL OF OUR STUFF SUCKS AND NO ONE SHOULD COME HERE BECAUSE OUR FACILITIES ARE BASICALLY 2 WET CARDBOARD BOXES AND A JANITOR WITH A HOSE FOR SHOWERING, BRR! GOT TO BE TOUGH AND MATURE TO COME HERE! When are we ever going to stop playing the "our facilities aren't very good, so you have to be a better person to come here" card??? First of all are facilities are GREAT! OSU has MANY advantages over the other Pac-12 school in regards to town, location and facilities. Second it is a flat lie and SUPER condescending, IMHO to tell other people they are shallow or immature for choosing a school other than OSU... Hey, I love OSU, I want every 5 star to come here, and I want OSU Football to win then next 100 games in a row, but this line of reasoning TURNS MORE PEOPLE OFF THAN ANY OF OUR PERCEIVED SHORTCOMINGS! Harumpf! ** Rant mode OFF **

Quick anecdote on a BIG advantage Corvallis and OSU has over lots (most? all? except maybe WSU?) of the other Pac-12 schools, that NEVER gets talked about... I have talked to kids from almost EVERY other pac-12 school in the last few months, that just happened to be in Corvallis either visiting a friend who goes to OSU, being here to attend a sporting event, or being here JUST TO BE SOCIAL... All of them to a man(woman, they,it) LOVE Corvallis and OSU's campus, the ENTIRE REASON they chose to make the trip was for the town and the campus. Specifically no other Pac-12 city (save maybe the Palouse, I have never been) packs in the social density that Corvallis does. Much like how people love to go and party on bourbon street or NYC one of the keys is they don't need to travel far to get to the next party. Yeah corvallis is small, but it also means nothing is very far away! Every Frat/Sorority, dorm, classroom, party house, bar, club (I know there is only one), pub, etc. in Corvallis is walking distance from the next. Or if cold and raining a $5 uber ride away. Have you ever noticed that Halloween is CRAZY on campus? It isn't just because the OSU students are out in force, but kids from EVERY other Pac-12 campus stream in to C-Town, for this specific social density night. Seriously, walk down monroe on most Friday or Saturday nights during the school year, it is like a mini, rainy Bourbon Street! On Halloween you pretty much can't drive anywhere on campus just because of the sheer volume of idiot, drunk, mostly naked college kids in the street! (Aside: When did just a thong and bra become a costume???) Even tsdtr with their fancy everything and the money everywhere can't match the convenience that is afforded the OSU football player. Living space, Dining hall, practice facility, Stadium, weight lifting room and all of their classes and tutors are literally within walking distance. You can easily live in Corvallis with no car. I have talked to multiple *uck players who bemoan this fact, and multiple OSU players who love it... Yeah maybe it's a tiny blip of an advantage, maybe it is meaningless, but it is something we should play up, and it counts just as much if not more than some ridiculous throne type chair for recruits to sit in or couch for you to sit on that cost more than my first house.... ** Huh... I guess rant mode WASN'T off after all.... ok it is now, for reals this time **

I can't speak for most Pac-12 universities, but in Eugene a player either has to drive to practice and work out or drive to school. No where is easily walkable to both.

Angie should just stick to taking pictures at practice.

Angie should just stick to taking pictures at practice. Actually she could answer an important question to a lot of us.... Will practices be open again in The Jonathan Smith Era? ??

It'll be interesting. I think Peterson ran mostly closed practices. I'd be thrilled to get a mix to where there was at least one or two practices open a week.

Angie doesn't realize how easy it would be to recruit against us right now.
Winless in conference play 2 of the last 3 seasons. Last bowl in 2013. Last All-American in 2013. 7-29 last 3 years, 3rd coach in 5 years. And that doesn't even bring facilities or stadium size into play. If she thinks kids aren't hearing this from other schools and just looking at "bling" she's a bigger idiot than I realized.
So yeah, let's go win some effing games, create some stability, generate some momentum and we'll get there. Until then, it's going to be an uphill battle for the Crockers of the world.
