Semisi Saluni is a mission kid.....nothing to see there. Colletto is a Vandy lean, that said and our current luck with QBs......wouldn't count on him. I don't know if he's necessarily a strong lean, seems pretty clear that he has a final 2. He does say some very nice things about Vandy in the article. Maybe someone needs to show him a list of Vandy QBs in the NFL. It's 1 guy, no one likes him and he's not good with faces. www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2018/01/jack_colletto_jc_qb_down_to_fi.html

The true number is 3 decommitments with the new staff, which is a good number as far as retention. There has been a grand total of 1 commitment under the new coaching staff and this is bad. One of the by products of the the 2 signing periods, new this year, is the recruits who did not sign early are much more willing to wait to commit until the late signing period. There is no comparison of this, but it is somewhat alarming that we want approximately 11 recruits to decide to sign with us in the next 14 days. We will not be in any situation to forecast whether we will be successful in the late signing period until it starts. This is a new situation. Virtually every recruit we still are in play on will decide February 7th. It could turn out good or really bad. We shall see.
We keep offering recruits and none of them see us as such a good offer that they cannot wait Feb 7th. There are about 4-5 recruits that we are in play on that would be considered higher ranked than all of the recruits signed in the early period. Hopefully we can get a good portion of those. It will be very interesting how it all turns out.
The most discouraging point is we have lost out on many recruits with the new staff so far except 1. I am optimistic that eventually we will see some go our way.

By my guesstimate we are legitimately competing for 18 recruits right now with 8-11 spots available.

He really did go out there and re recruit these kids. Smalls, and Hodgins and several others actively recommitted to Smith. I know it isn't his farm to table work, but in a transition year you cannot discredit retaining a large number of existing commits. This new two period thing is... interesting. tough year to be breaking in a new staff.

The thing I really like about 2 signing periods is it used to be about December before people would freak out and panic, now people can freak out in late October AND December and January.

I just stated it opposite in that they only lost 3 commitments. I can see your point, though. I did not focus on those recruits retained, but those lost. I agree the first year of 2 signing periods is very interesting. At this point in time it appears the coaching staff is recruiting 20-21 recruits to fill 8-11 spots.

Not sure if there is some hidden emotion behind this statement that I do not understand. The way it is worded and the emoji kind of makes me think that way. The "math" is based the following information: What I have gleaned from the roster based on scholarship numbers with 11 yet to fill estimated. What others have estimated by the same process. That a recruiting website has said we have scholarships remaining for 8 spots. The BeavRecruiting twitter has estimated even up to 13 spots available. Finally and most authoritatively Coach Smith has stated the class was half complete in the early signing period. All this information leaves us to believe that the coaching staff is probably trying to fill 8-11 spots and maybe even up to 13. The limit of signing 25 per each calendar year also factors into this estimate. I hope this helps your curiosity. As you well know, this is all just guess work. It is enjoyable for people that like to keep track of this stuff. I would not stake my life on any of the numbers. I read it over again and I think you may have missed the at this point in time statement. We have signed 11 already, so those are not part of the group that we are trying to obtain commitments from right now.

Some of the 14 are not needing recruitment as Garcia returning cam take one of those spots, as could Turnier if coaching staff has an opening to fill.

We have signed 11 already, so those are not part of the group that we are trying to obtain commitments from right now. I'm hoping that we actually get rosters this season that indicate who is on scholarship and who is not. The withholding of this information coincided with the CGA regime, so I'm hoping we return to "full disclosure" mode with Smith. From my estimates of the roster, taking 8 more would put us just at 85 with no room for expected attrition from either the recruits or returnees. With the recent news of Tyner's retirement, I think we're at 76, so it would be at least 9 to give. I don't know if the rules have changed in the past few years regarding "over signing" but it was not uncommon during the MR years to sign up to 10 more players in February than we had scholarships to give. When there are coaching changes, the attrition rate often goes up, so taking the full 25 contingent (if we can) would not surprise me. SaveSave

So has the angst of the OP subsided with the recent run of commits? Can coffee still be served?
