Ok, though I'm not a big fan of bringing back Riley for round 3 I can see the benefits of him being in a consultant-type role for Coach Smith. Riley knows his stuff inside and out so that will be a big asset for Smith. Here's my concern; if Riley ends up being the QB coach then that will mean he will likely be pretty heavily involved in recruiting of QB's. Here in lies my concern because I thought recruiting was Riley's biggest weakness. I am worried that Riley isn't going to be an asset when it comes to recruiting top flight QB's. Thoughts?
Go Beavs!

I don't know, I thought we had pretty good QBs when Riley was here. Say what you will about the overall recruiting, QBs were not lacking. If he's able to focus on mainly recruiting QBs now I think we'll continue to have good ones, especially with him and Niner coaching them up. Recruiting has been lackluster on both lines and we'll need to address that with the new staff, but I don't think you look to your QB coach to do that.

7 pages of angst, speculation, "perspective" and analogies - and nothing close to official. I'll say this - offseason has been much more exciting than the regular season! And this is after the OTHER 7 page thread that was already about Mike Riley being the QB coach had lost steam

I wanted to kind of poo-poo this but this guy has not yet been wrong ... about anything, as far as I can tell.

The whole time I skimmed this thread I kept thinking to myself that we are wasting our time, as Riley as an assistant is not happening. That is what I think, we can stop thinking and discussing it. Unless you want to discuss something that is not happening.
The individual who posted the photoshopped picture must be really having a good laugh.

I questioned it on page one when I saw they had 9 posts. More likely a Duck fan who has a limited life, lives at parents home, empty drink and food containers all around the room.

Totally agree - Kind of like a winter April Fool's joke. I was , like everyone, looking everywhere for confirmation - but then saw the palatial office photo and relaxed. I am not in favor of any role for Riley. I know others are, fine. Absolutely NOTHING PERSONAL, however what we saw at Nebraska was the same decline in performance that we saw in Corvallis. Specifically, ability to get hot recruits at ANY position (even QB)in the latter days of his tenure ( duplicated in Lincoln), Hanging on to an 'old' PAC 12 focused coaching staff that could not compete in the BIG10 or in the PAC-12, Inability to prepare for big games, Inability to make even one halftime adjustment, Extremely poor clock management, Inability to accept that something was going wrong and to address it or fix it, Stubborn, Stubborn, SQUARED !

Kempt, elFrio, McMaryion all were in the latter days of his tenure. Who handed Oklahoma their lone loss this season? Yep one of MR's OSU QB recruits. Who led his team to a conference title? Another of MR's OSU QB recruits? Who was Florida's starting QB until injury? A third MR OSU QB recruit. It's painfully obvious our QB cupboard was stocked when MR departed. Gebbia and O'brien were his first two QB commits at Nebraska, both 4 star QB's and highly offered. He also got Tanner Lee to transfer in this year. Was second leading passer in Big14, not bad playing in a brand new system behind a not so good O-line.

Fresno didn't beat Boise? Hmm, well my bad then. The score I saw showed FSU beat Boise. Either way, 9 wins at the FBS level equals good in my book.
