“So rumor is Erickson's plan to the AD was to become HC for 2-3 years with Jonathan Smith as his OC then pass the torch. Smith was good with the idea. Interesting. Those two make a great team ⚫🔶”
Again...this was a tweet from a beaver fan and not a representative of OSU/reporter/someone with insider info.

I cannot imagine a better scenario.

Well if rumors out of Seattle are worth anything, JS would be available...

That is a terrible idea. Glad it was just some idiot on Twitter.

I would be very curious who Dennis would bring in on staff though, other than Smitty? Dennis can still recruit! Moss from Utah was one of his and that kid is a stud! I could see the donors trying to do something like this, bring back the coach who had the best season in Beaver history and let him hand the reigns over to a former Beaver player. The one thing I would say against that would be that the move is pretty temporary and it is very safe. Not necessarily to win right away but just sticking to the old paradigm (coaches who have already coached here). Out of the last three coaches to be here, 2 of them would have been here twice each.... over a 17 year stint. Just my take Go Beavs!

If you like Smith enough to agree to him being a coach in waiting, just hire him. Let him make Erickson his AHC/QB coach. Serves a similar purpose without making recruits wonder who their coach will be in year 5 (assuming success of course).
I've become somewhat intrigued by Smith ever since listening to Bernard on the podcast earlier this week. I think he made a good argument for Smith. Also mentioned how Smith would likely get Hayward from UO who is one of the best recruiters in the country.
Maybe I am also just resigned to the belief that it will end up being Smith (not starting rumors just my gut feeling) and am trying to create reasons for a strong staff being around him.

Not yet for me. I feel like that would be totally settling. If he’s in danger of getting canned as a co-coordinator, what in the world makes us think that Niner would be a good head coach?
This idea that a former Beaver to be our coach is intriguing, but I’m not sure it is best for the program. Same thing for Lester in hoops were he eligible to coach. Even Alabama got crossed up trying to get a ‘Bama guy. Ditto for USC.
I like Smith, and loved what he did when he played for us, but we need to aim higher. Even a guy like Tedford would be “splashier” for me.

Second this "in danger of being canned" nonsense is just that. Its a baseless rumor from UW fans.

That could be DE's plan to the AD.I suspect the AD's answer to DE is, "No thanks."
