I'm certain Riley will retire if he's fired from Nebraska, but do you think he'd be interested in grooming a young head coaching prospect? Could Riley's advise help an inexperienced head coach like Jonathan Smith find success?

Sure he could, but I don't like it. And neither would he probably.
After I got my engineering degree at OSU I went to Alabama to get my business degree and to screw off and watch football. Mostly the latter. I was always a Bama fan, still am. I watched for years as they only hired people with Bama ties, some successful, most not. Until the broke out of that mold and hired Satan. The rest is history, and all schools should learn from it and get out of their comfort zone.

How about Riley as Head Coach at Corvallis High starting in the 2018? Might be a perfect fit .... doubt he'd want another college job, he loves CHS, and the current head man is a chronic failure.

Mike still has a house in Corvallis. His daughter and two grandkids live here. He'll be spending a lot of time in Corvallis when he retires.

So, you are criticizing GA for leaving $12 million plus with the school, but idolizing MR for chasing the money and dumping us twice ? That is some biased logic!

If Riley can weather this season, Nebraska is set up for a nice run next year. He has a lot of talented young players on the field right now. Also after a shaky start to the season, vs Wisconsin Tanner Lee looked like the QB who can make his offense unstoppable providing they get him some dependable receivers who can catch the ball consistently.
If he does get chopped, I'd take Diaco as DC/HC providing MR is the OC and play caller. Bring Inoke Breckterfield back from Wisconsin to coach D-line. Langs is a very good QB coach. Bring Brey to coach LB's. James Rodgers is on staff at N and I would think could make an outstanding WR's/RB's coach. Cory Hall-DB's. What position group am I missing? Ah yes O-line, Cav is the only assistant left so MR must think he's worth his weight which is good enough for me.

It would be odd given Riley's history here, but I would not be the slightest bit surprised to see him somewhere as OC and/or Asst HC in a pairing with a young defensive oriented up and comer. Riley is probably one of the few guys out there that could make this adjustment and offer guidance without overstepping. A good NFL comparison is the Rams, with 31 year old Sean McVay as HC and 70 year old Wade Phillips as DC.
That said, I think Riley will still get some HC offers even if he gets clipped. Probably not P5, but if he wants to continue being a HC I think he would still be a good option for a lot of lower level FBS or FCS teams. Or the CFL.
Unlike Andersen. He'll be lucky to get a volunteer job at a HS after this debacle. The texts sealed that.

No, no, no!!! No more Riley. No more CGA assistants. We need to start over with someone that has no ties to this program.

Thank Riley for the best string of OSU football for the last several decades and let him retire in peace. Riley stated on the radio the week of the game in Eugene that Nebraska, no matter how long it goes or how it ends up, is probably his last coaching job. He's seemed pretty tired the last few years and doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that needs to coach until he's 70.
