on the face of it this doesn't look like a good fit. Eugeneans are small-townish about unfamiliar faces. If you catch my drift.

Considering they finished dead last in the North division and tied for the second worst overall conference record, mediocrity would be an improvement wouldn't it?
It still makes me laugh that the ducks still don't realize what led them to their run. It was the defensive improvement and this new hire is not the guy to bring that about any time soon unless he's as willing to do what it takes as chip(willy) was.

The Zeroes will finish at the bottom again next year. They overpaid for Taggart. They'll be looking to buy him out after two years. Mullens gets fired shortly afterward. It's a great day to be a Beaver.

I hope for mediocrity. The ducks are obsessing about UW, but, they have quite a few other teams in front of them. The thing that I compare it to, this situation, is Ernie Kent in basketball. Often 'painted' as a great recruiter, he was never able to get the program consistently to an elite level. At the same time, I am a little concerned about his ( new guys ) Florida connections - he could mess with Kelly Lockettes program.

Obviously, I HOPE for uck mediocrity, but I fear they got this one right. He'll change some of the "coddled culture" at "hole," and let's face it; they STILL have all those over-the-top facilities, uncle phil-good's money, and NOW they have an African American at the helm. Could be interesting RECRUITING against the guy..and by "interesting" I mean, VERY TOUGH. We shall see.. GO BEAVS!

One hopes that they get mediocrity, but...I think a lot of us thought their basketball team would have problems when they got their guy Altman from way down on their list. He's turned them into a highly ranked program right now.

I think they will make or break UO's success. We know their offense won't likely suffer, but can they hire a real DC? That is the question. I am just real surprised UO didn't pull out all the stops for Harsin - very glad too. Nobody knows Chris Peterson better, and he knows us too. And to go with somebody with almost zero west coast ties. Head-scratcher.

And to go with somebody with almost zero west coast ties. Head-scratcher. Taggart's 3 years at Stanford are exactly 3 more years than GA had in the Pac-12 before we hired him.

At least with Taggart they have a curve ball for Pete to deal with.

GA was at Utah and Utah State for how many years? He had connections and ties to the west coast. And he's had/has more years in the west coast than Taggart.

I don't know anyone who refers to Utah or Utah State (especially in Utah's pre-Pac 12 days) as "west coast". And, I specifically mentioned that it was Pac-12 experience that Taggart had over GA. Pac-12 experience in a place that's actually on the west coast. The OP claimed Taggart had no west coast experience.
