If he got a large NIL deal or an offer for one to go to another school, that is not within the rules. If that turns out to be the case, Oregon State should immediately go to the NCAA if it has proof that a violation has occurred.

There are no rules at this point. There are and as weak as the NCAA has become, it still enforces those rules. The players all have handlers now working out these deals, so as long as a collective is not directly negotiating with an athlete, there's no proof of anything.

Actually a while back I posted the list of the new rules. And, it states that NIL offers can NOT be made until a player is committed to a school and can NOT be used to induce a commitment. Also, ALL NIL deals have to be a written contract to insure they are valid to protect the student athlete. Hence, any "backroom" deal between a handler of a player currently enrolled and a collective of another school is a violation. And, if the offer is not on paper, it is also a violation. And, the handler would also lose their certification to represent players.

It's unlikely those in the (for example) Oregon State football program would be unaware of what these "handlers" are up to. Martinez stated many times that he was staying. So it seems unlikely that he suddenly changed his mind and started reaching out to the "handlers" or directly to another school to get an offer. IMO, it would seem more likely that he was contacted if this rumor is true. Again, a violation.

Anyway, even the inept NCAA been proven it on a regular basis when they investigate. Added... "... prohibits an NIL entity from engaging in any contact, correspondence or other communication with or providing any benefits to a prospect, potential transfer or any individual associated with them, until the prospect signs a letter of intent, participates in summer activities or practices with the team, or enrolls at the school and attends classes." NIL "entity" can be an organization or an individual. If the "individual" is significantly associated with a school... large donor, on a any school related board... alumni, fund raising, Trustee, etc... it is also a separate university violation. Proof is simple... is the athlete in the portal and signed to a LOI? Practiced or attended classes? Is there a written contract? NCAA has and is investigating multiple schools on the basis of such rumors and phone calls to share info and set up meetings. Doesn't take much more than a phone log to see who made calls to who.

I know that's the rule........but good luck proving it and/or acting like it's not happening. Agreed. There is t a high end player or coach out there denying that it's happening and many transfers are pre negotiated. Not only are they not denying it but many openly talk about it. Martinez himself has made comments about deals he has recieved.

I know that's the rule........but good luck proving it and/or acting like it's not happening. There's been several NCAA investigations into schools for NIL violations. I'm sure some schools have gotten away with it to this point. That doesn't mean those schools won't get investigated in the future.

And if he's been offered deals, it's on Oregon State to report that to the NCAA.

As a fan, I am hoping to see Martinez play for us at least one more year. But we all know that the kid has talent far greater than anything OSU will be able to highlight, given the current circumstances.
For the next year or two, our future is shaky at best. It could turn out fine or it could end up that we just become another irrelevant team in the greater scheme of things. We fans have to sit and wait to see what will happen.
But time is against Martinez. He's got to make noise, stay healthy, and get drafted.
I'd love for him to play here, but I completely understand and wish him well if he jumps to a team that can give him a better shot at a pro career.
Good luck Martinez! Go show them what a Beaver can do!
