No... proof reading will be your friend. "Put themselves out there"? To an audience of? And, really get a grip spouting off on social media doesn't make the team anything. Lol there it is, your usual “proof reading” or some other stupid response. I read good 😊. And if you really don’t think social media is the driving force in today’s colleges and students or kids, you really are out of touch. Dawn Staley herself said something to the effect that social media was one of the worst thing that could happen to women's sports

Dawn Staley herself said something to the effect that social media was one of the worst thing that could happen to women's sports I sort of agree with her but also understand it. There are maybe 10 women athletes who have actual big contracts that have tv ads or billboards or whatever. The other athletes use social media to put themselves out there, It’s the best way to promote themselves. Jade Carey uses social media a lot to promote gymnastics apparel and Knudsen juices. A lot of the basketball team uses it to try and sell their apparel. You’d be extremely naive to think that social media doesn’t play a huge part in today’s world, (I’m not saying you specifically). A lot of the pundits who picked OSU 10th in the Pac12 are now singing their praise. Talia and others calling themselves Americas team was just fun and them being silly. But it also showed just how much they felt disrespected and how they wanted to earn that respect. And really, it worked. People are now talking about them, and they earned and deserve all the respect they have gotten. I thought it was a great interview, and the tik tok where they’re laying on each other laughing and enjoying the experience just shows how much this team loves each other and feels like they belong with the NCAA field. Isn’t that what college sports is about and what makes it special?

I think that Talia absolutely understands the importance of social media as a tool to gain exposure for the Beavers and it was very insightful of her to start pushing the whole America's Team thing. Any positive exposure is great. Talia obviously thinks big. I just wish Oregon State had a better grasp of this and could kind of get past the whole we're the overachieving little guy, we're built, not bought, etc., and embrace the hype game. And yes, I like the spirit and meaning of built, not bought and I think it was put out there by fans, but it doesn't really push the needle beyond the OSU fan base. I know it wasn't all due to social media, but Colorado hiring "Coach Prime" and then getting a Netflix show propelled a below average football team to unbelievably high TV numbers, especially for the first half of the season. Maybe the Pac-2 could contact Netflix for a show. Or better yet, America's Team: The Netflix series.

Yeah, Colorado got great TV numbers, millions tuning in to see them go 1-7 in the last eight weeks.
Short-term gain, long-term pain when they suck again this year and then have to hire another new coach in 2026 or 2027 and pay off the balance of Sanders' contract.
But hey, they dominated social media for a month and sold some tickets.

Hard disagree on all this...the idea to embrace style over substance...branding over building goes against the grain of all we are.

Hard disagree on all this...the idea to embrace style over substance...branding over building goes against the grain of all we are. The ideal would be to do both. That's what TVO and teammates did with America's Team, IMO. Besides, I'm not convinced that there's a lot of beefiness behind anything that is truly all style and no substance when it comes down to it. It can work for a while (Coach Prime hype) but you gotta back it up at some point. I wouldn't go so far as to say if you can't beat them, join them as far as the hype machine...but the near future is crucial for Oregon State. I would add that the national perception of OSU and WSU right now isn't great. While there are fans of other schools that support the idea that OSU and WSU should be in a power conference, there's plenty of dismissive stuff pushed by podcasters, social media personalities and even some in the media. And a lot of it either is not accurate at all or is based on statistical fragments or whatever. You're not going to change all the minds out there but stuff like America's Team certainly helps.

Exactly, why not both? I think people are still underestimating female athletes. They can promote themselves, make some money, use social media for their needs but still be outstanding athletes and people. That's what they have been fighting for, respect. Jade Carey is something like the 16th highest paid athlete in the nation for women. But she is still a great ambassador for OSU and is still a phenomenal athlete and competitor. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the OSU players having fun and using social media to promote themselves. I personally trust them to do so, and still compete at a high level. Not trusting them to do so is a huge disservice to them in my opinion. Like I said, that's what they are fighting for, exposure and the same opportunities as the guys. You'll never be in the minds of others unless you put yourself out there for the world to see. And they can do it and not lose themselves, in fact it's who this team is that makes all beaver fans love them. Why not let the rest of the country see that?

Yes, but like the elves in Lord of the Rings...the day of the builders has passed. I think we're all a little traumatized because we can remember DECADES of it not being this way. But those days are all over.

We need the right players to completely buy in though. I get that kids transfer for various reasons. That said, if there is a mass exodus from an elite 8 team that is young, and full of potential to make another run, I'm out.....I mean I'm not out, cuz I'm and alum, but I will lose respect for those who bail simply because we will be playing a WCC schedule......I mean Gill would be packed still, right?

If someone had the courage…Remember the impact Dan Lanning’s emphatic statement made during a time of uncertainty. The country is listening. The platform is available. Tell everyone why there is no place better than Oregon State. There is an opportunity to really create brand by staying.

A farmer friend if mine encourages his kids to tell their story to those that have a different background/career. I encourage the student athelets to do the same. If you want to be America's Team, talk to the American people. Tell them your story.
