The media, fed by Hildago, is really milking this one. So I'll rant in response:
First I guess, never mind it's against the rules. Hildago comes across as an entitled child by complaining she wasn't allowed to break he rule for EVERY game not just this one.
Never mind that OSU is playing a player with a broken nose, and another one who took a hard swipe to the nose. Maybe, just maybe, the refs saw Talia take a shot early to the nose (and just before they told Hildago was told to remove her nose ring, as I recall), realized if Hildago took that same elbow swipe to the nose, that there's a good chance that nose ring tears and these blood all over the place, creating a biohazard on the court - BECAUSE a payer is breaking the exact rule intended to avoid that situation?!
And what kind of jewelry takes 17 MINUTES to remove? What kind of jewelry cannot be removed by the person wearing it?! It too two people (not including the person wearing it) 17 minutes to remove a single piece of jewelry? Doesn't that seem a terrible idea in general? It's not a medical appliance!
And what's the garbage about ref's stopping her 'flow'? Maybe Raegan should be complaining about how often she gets flop calls against her all season, has to sit for foul trouble for long stretches, and affects her 'flow'?! ND's coach talked about how this team had overcome so much adversity all season (and they have, lots of injuries), and now a player sitting for a 4 min stretch is some overwhelming adversity? Come on, no you come across as hyping your own adversity.
Having coached girls basketball, I have dealt with jewelry violations regular basis. Some refs don't care, others, who probably are the ones that have dealt with the bloody aftermath, enforce the rules. I would tell the girls the rules, but I also wasn't always paying attention. If they broke the rules and the ref noticed, they came out and sat while they took care of it. The lost PT as a way to learn to take care of it themselves. I'm pretty sure Hildago has been through deal throughout her basketball experience to date. Quit acting like this rule is totally out of the blue.
And finally, in contrast, consider Raegan's interview at Halftime, when she was asked about all the travel calls (some very questionable IMO). Her response? "That's on me, I have to do better". Contract that response to Hildago's whining about being treated unfairly. The contrast in those responses is EXACTLY why OSU won and ND not.
