When we say it people tend to dismiss it saying of course we have to say it. But we regularly hear opposing players and coaches comment on how difficult of a place it is to play in. And then commentators talk about it several times a game. Back in the 15, 16 and 17 seasons it became a place that ESPN announcers all wanted to go to. We will get back to that with this team, the next couple years we should be in the national spotlight again.

Most importantly, every single OSU player says it, and says it all the time. It's understandable. The first time a freshman runs onto the floor at Gill to face a very decided underdog in game 1, there's more people in the stands that night than ever saw her play in her 4 years of high school combined. And they're very loud and very partisan. And the crowds just keep getting bigger, and louder, as the season progresses.
It really is one hell of an experience for young girls.

I Love Gill as well! Although, it would be nice if it wasn't 90+ degrees in the cheapies where I sit It has been that way my whole life. Is there no way to get some ventilation up there?

And uncover the beautiful windows, the way they do at that equally noble, classic, basketball monument FKA Hec Edmondson (sp?).
Open doors early: a sweatbox benefits neither team. Does pump beer and other hydrators' sales, though.

Can confirm, Hec Ed is a great place for a basketball game as well. Hasn't seen much in the way of crowds since Plum graduated. The name on the outside of the building keeps changing with corporate naming rights, but it still is Hec Ed.

One of the things the opposition complains about is the temperature. It starts out warm and increases as the game goes on. Just another way to make them uncomfortable. There is some ventilation if you are fortunate to sit right below vents

It's a little old school, but security could open the 2nd floor doors on both sides periodically. It does provide some pretty good fresh air. Kind of like "rolling down the window" of my family's '67 Dodge Polara on road trips.

They could also turn the ac up. There are several ways they could cool it down but that would require wanting to. As it is it's a distraction to their opponents. The temperature is second only to the noise that gets mentioned regarding Gill.

Gill has a tremendous history. Somewhere there are photos of Swede Halbrook and Bill Russell going after each other in a new Gill. We bad mouth it some, but I think it is a classic university arena.

The windows are uncovered. They removed the bricking that had enclosed them a number of years ago. The shades are pulled because in afternoon games the light distracts the shooters. They stopped an afternoon women's game against Cal some time ago to close the shades. There certainly isn't an AC on the second level of Gill. Worked a seasonal job there for several years quite some time ago and we left the windows open at night in May, June and September to cool our office off. Luckily I didn't work there in July or August.
