Rueck and the NCAA tourney
- Made the tourney 8 our of 14 years (one year no tournament held) - 62% Dance rate - Never lost in the first round - Only lost to a lower seed once. Tournament exits have been to #1, #11, #3, #1, #1, #1 seeds. Has defeated a #1 and #2 - In 13 total opportunities, 1 Final four, 1 Elite 8, 3 Sweet sixteens (with one may go further still). That's 5 our of 8 times of making Sweet 16 or better
Compared to Ralph Miller at OSU - Made Dance 8 out of 19 times (42%) - Lost first round 4 out of 8 times - Made it once to Sweet 16 or better (at OSU)
When it comes to postseason, one is much more legendary than the other at OSU

Let's not forget the dumpster fire Rueck took over. The first three years were spent just trying to build a team.

One could argue that it's more difficult to have sustained success in women's B ball in this conference......its a straight up buzzsaw every season.
He is a fantastic recruiter, and has created a very solid culture.

Ralph's best teams never had the advantage of a 64-team tournament, where they could get an easy opening-round win to get their sea legs. The tournaments are two separate, different entities. The men's tournament has much more competitive parity. Just appreciate both coach's accomplishments.

The men's tournament has much more competitive parity. Just appreciate both coach's accomplishments. Agreed, both amazing accomplishments. I do think this does point out that Rueck has been able to do something that seemed more of a struggle for Ralph, which is to get a team to peak at the right time and pay up to the level of their capabilities under pressure. I realize the men's tournament is very different, but having teams ready in the postseason mentally and peaking is what everybody strives for. I thought Vanderveer showed her Hall of Fame mettle yesterday. It just felt like that was ISU's day, and they'd find a way to win. The threw haymaker after haymaker, playing at an extremely high level. Stanford looked to me like they would run out of answers, and instead they were the team that didn't blink in the end. So much mental toughness displayed by that team down the stretch (certainly by ISU as well).
