Guys on the roster who started at another college or university: Kyle Haley Rahmel Dockery Devin Chappell Darrell Garretson Landry Payne Treston DeCoud Julian Brentley Timmy Hernandez Tim Cook Marcus Greaves Jaylynn Bailey Kieran yancy Ian Crist Kyle White Nick Porebski Ryan Navarro Wesley Payne Sosaia Tauaho Brayden Kearsley Bobby Keenan Quinn Smith Phillip Napoleon Paisa Savea Baker Pritchard That's 24 guys. Porebski and DeCoud are the only ones that seem to me like they were able to make an "immediate" impact....unless you want to count Navarro as the LS.
What this article is really trying to say is "you need to recruit Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh, DeLawrence Grant and LaDairius Jackson." Darrell Garretson is the starting QB and Team Captain. I'd give him a nod at Immediate impact There are also a few others on that list that have seen decent PT as well. And some of these guys have only played 4 games. TJ, Chad, and The Presidents weren't exactly All Pac10 players 4 games in either. Most JC guys, take 1/2 to a whole year before their impact is felt.
and our leading tackler on defense.

When talking about "impact," I was referring to players that I think were able to come in and compete at a pac-12 level immediately. DeCoud and Porebski have shown it, an Navarro does a pretty solid job as a long snapper (Michigan game notwithstanding). Chappell fits the mold now, but hardly anyone knew who he was last year (also not a true JuCo guy.) Garretson is averaging 125 passing yards a game and completing less than 55% of his passes. I don't think he's helping us be competitive right now.

Napoleon/Savea/Pritchard all make a heavy impact to the defense... None of them are stat players or play stat positions, but they all play a ton.

Since Pritchard/Kearsley/Garretson weren't JUCO transfers, they have no relevance to the topic of JUCO impact. It's actually a pretty short list of juco's when you include the players who actually came from jucos....in this thread about Juco's.

The others not former JUCO players are: Chappell/Greaves/Crist/Brentley/Bailey/Smith (and technically not Dockery, since it was only academic). That leaves 14 current JUCO transfers. I should have been more clear. It's a really long ways from 24.

I could care less where a kid comes from if he can help make the football team better. Never understood why there was a stigma on jucos Because Sean McDonough pointed it out in a negative light about 17 times during the Fiesta Bowl. Isn't that Sh!tlord now on MNF now? guh, I practically have to watch it on mute now. I love me some Gruden though. He is like an ongoing SNL skit of himself.

What are we arguing about here? That I included guys that didn't come from junior colleges? Or that I said guys like Baker Pritchard, Napoleon, Garretson, and others weren't impactful? Because I think what Canzano was saying is that we need plug and play guys that are ready to go immediately. My point was that almost 25% of our roster had post-high school experience prior to arriving at Oregon State, and we are 3-14 in the past 2 seasons, so no...I don't think juco guys are the answer. Someone else made the point that Erickson went 7 wins, 11 wins, 5 wins.....and that's what JuCo guys are. A short-term fix. Only reason to do that now is if the staff was worried about getting fired or wanted to move on quickly. I don't think either of those things are true. They're trying to build something that will last. It's not going to happen overnight, and if you start deviating from your plan, well that's when things really start going off the rails.

pretty sad state of affairs when Canzano is making sense. olive linkyI know I'll be flamed for this, but I've never understood the hatred for Canzano. He's a columnist, his job is to get people fired up and talking. Do yourself a favor and watch the show on KGW, Sunday night after the NFL game. He kills the Ducks, while poor Joey 5 Picks stands there and tries to defend them. Hey, like what you like, dude just has always rubbed me wrong. I dislike him less for the obvious troll jobs and more the blatant and constant injecting himself into any story out there. The muck raking is good and healthy in journalism, CLOWNzano puts himself in any story he can and that is what gets under my skin.

That's the first legitimate complaint I've heard about Canzano, and it's totally understandable. The "he hates/loves the (insert team you love/hate)" stuff never really made sense to me.
In fairness, this is how it works in journalism these days it seems. Journalists are their own brand now. If you only write a column, you're nothing. You also have to have a webpage with a trendy name, a podcast with an even trendier name, host shows on the radio/periscope/television, etc. Clay Travis with fox sports is a great example of this. He used to be a pretty decent writer with interesting things to say. Now he's a blowhard who calls people morons and is outraged by every single person who is outraged by anything. It's why I prefer guys like Kerry Eggers, who can inject their opinions into their stories without being inflammatory and also give you actual information at the same time.

I was always a big Buker fan. Canzano is just aping Jim Rome too much for me. I don't think he really believes half the stuff he says, and just prefers whatever is most inflammatory at the time. Hot take after hot take, very little substance. Rome stopped being fun/interesting to listen to about 2003. I always preferred Cowherd, though I know plenty of people hate Ol' "Dunthorpe" too.

Yeah, I had a Jim Rome period too, I listened for a bit, maybe 2005 -ish. I like most of Cowherd, my favorite sports guys to listen to right now is Michael Davies and Roger Bennett (Men IN Blazers) but I know everyone doesn't enjoy the Futbol.
