Ashton Eaton?
I will admit that I am a fan of AE - quality kid and actually from Oregon...
He has a 44 point lead going into the 1,500 (last event) and 'should' hold on to win it...
DISCLAIMER - I'm from Central Oregon...
Also, Oregon Native Ryan Crouser (University of Texas) won the Gold by putting the shot farther than everyone else...

I rooted for Eaton. I've been a huge fan of the decathlon since I was 8 years old and watched Jenner get the gold in Montreal. Eaton has all the skills and is fun to watch. I also like seeing the repeat gold. At the same time, I liked the fact that it was a pretty tight race this year and that Frenchman was in it 'til the end.

Women's 4x100m relay kicked @$$ today, so another ex-$uck won herself a gold. The men's 4x100m team get DQ'd for the 2nd Olympics in a row. I wish they would actually work on hand-offs, I mean c'mon put some time and effort into it...

I root "USA/Americans" come the Olympics... could care less where they are from or what school they attend/attended. But, I do love the mini docs and side stories...

Rooted for Eaton also. I was 12 and not 8, but Jenner made me a fan in 1976. My Dad took me to a few days of the trials in Eugene an it was the Decath 1500 and Jenner trying to break the world record (he failed but did it in Montreal) that was the most exciting moment.
I root for the ones I don't think are cheating. It's hard to tell in this sport. Also, I wish a Beaver would develop and get within a realistic shot of making the team. None are even semi-close. Laura Carlyle pr'd again (4:12.1) about a month ago in Belgium. She may be in the top-10 list for Canadians this year. She's 27 so I don't know if she will continue.

I watched maybe 20 mintues of Olympics coverage on NBC, and really think the olympics are pretty much just a media event now to find summer viewers every 4 years. Twitter provided all the updates I needed. I used to love it, best sporting event by far. But now its over produced (Ryan Secreast, Hoda, and Billy Bush, seriously?). There are no longer bad guys with Russia banned and East Germany gone. USA seems more like the bad guy now, overpaying their athletes with sponsorships (and over the top benefits, like Nike's gladiator helmet for Eaton). Team USA B-ball on an oceanliner, too good for the olympic village? They are the olympics in name only now. I get it and not trying to be anti-american, but there really isn't much competition any more and the constant fawning by the media over every USA win like it's an upset is nauseating. The PAC 12 athletes alone would have finished third in the medal count, not really much of a worldwide competition. Besides, I heard about all the results on twitter hours before it was on TV. Why wade through hours of commercials and stay up late to watch something 12 hours old? I will give serious props to Usain Bolt. That was impressive.
