Van Larson, a 5-11, 166 pound OF/LHP has committed to Oregon State. Larson bats left, throws left and plays for Marin Catholic HS in Kentfield, CA. Indications are, he comes to Corvallis as an OF prospect that has some limited pitching experience.
He appeared in 8 games as a sophomore in 2019 on a MCAL championship team that completed an 18-7 season and participated in the Northern California Section CIF - Division II playoffs.
In the virus-shortened 2020 season, playing in 6 games, he was 4-12 with 5R, 3 RBI, 2 triples, 4 BB and 1 K. In 16 plate appearances, he was .333/ .500/ .666.
Van is the younger brother of Eli Larson, a 3-time All Marin County Athletic League SS now playing at the University of Richmond. My guess is, he's walking on at OSU.

Some additional information on Van Larson. Not heavily recruited but those schools with interest were recruiting him as a pitcher. My guess on that may be off base. The data I have had him throwing in the 85-87 mph range last month. His meal ticket is a plus 12 to 6 curve ball with some late bite. Under Armour says he's 6' and 162. He has length - a narrow frame with upper and lower body length and a very loose delivery. His release point is arguably right over the top or from a very high 3/4 slot. His motion is quick and a little jerky at times. From the video's I saw, the change up is missing and hitting the strike zone consistently are his opportunities to improve at OSU. I see the term "upside" in his evaluations. The superlatives are, good kid, good family, good student.
Like David Case, the Beavs see something they like and feel they can develop. Maybe we can steal the football term? We'll call them "sleepers".
