The Beavs are working the top 2023 in-state talent, this time we land RHP Drew Talavs, 6-2 and 175 from West Linn H.S.
Talavs joins LHP Paul Wilson from Lake Oswego/ Lakeridge HS and RHP James DeCremer from Phoenix/ Brophy Prep in the 2023 class.
Drew is another Gunderson Baseball product with sound mechanics and a bushel full of "nasty stuff".
More growth ahead for this high ceiling young pitcher.
Gunderson: "This guy is going to be really good".
*** I'll scour my notes and see what I can add.

Drew's experience and exposure on the summer regional and national circuit is somewhat limited at this point. First, he's entering his sophomore year in high school and second, the pandemic destroyed his freshman year and summer of competition. He's played an ample amount of competitive baseball but not in the last 9-10 months. Notoriety comes with performing in the Showcase events and big tournaments. Those elite events are heavily attended by the scouts and writers representing the baseball websites. That is the origin of player profiles, scouting reports, ratings and rankings.
Drew's summer baseball dates back to youth leagues, and age-group all star teams that include 503 East, Baseball Northwest 14u Elite and Portland Premier Baseball 15u. Obviously, Drew's frosh season was recently wiped out. It appears that he attended Lakeridge HS last year and has transferred to West Linn for this year.
Drew is the number 3 ranked player in Oregon and the best RHP in the state by Perfect Game. Paul Wilson from Lakeridge is the number 1 ranked player in Oregon and the best LHP in the state. He is also committed to Oregon State. Building a class always starts with the foundation - pitching. The Beavs have started building their 2023 class with the top 2 pitching prospects in Oregon and the 3rd ranked pitching prospect in Arizona.
Working with instruction from Gunderson Baseball, Talavs has impved his velocity by almost 5 mph over the past year. In July of 2019, he topped out at 83, one year later he tops at 88. His fastball velo ranges from 85 to 88 mph at age 15. His "out" pitch is a slider that he throws at 76-78 mph and has been described by scouts as a cross between a hard slider and 2-plane curveball. His third pitch is a change-up with good movement at 70-71 mph. Good command and can locate all 3 pitches. His motion is easy and loose leading scouts to estimate "there is a lot more in the tank" he hasn't tapped into yet.
* You heard it here first. OSU's 2021 class will sign 16 recruits. 15 pitchers and one catcher.
