Ok, it is only fair that the athletes that play spring sports get an additional red shirt year because of the cancellation of their seasons. But what is this going to do to the next recruiting class, the kids coming in September?
Baseball's only got 11.7 schollies to begin with and if three or four players (or more) stay, what about the freshmen who were promised scholarship funds that may now be held over for these redshirts?
It only seems to get more complicated....

It only seems to get more complicated.... Nothing has been decided for sure. NCAA, conferences have a ways to go, questions to answer before any real decisions will be made. Of course it's a slow sports news cycle so headlines abound over the smallest generalities. I think the scholly limits and roster sizes could be a huge stumbling block. You can't just expect AD increase budgets for more scholarships? And, what do AD do with surplus $ from no Spring sports... less travel, accommodations, meals, etc. Lots of interconnected issues, some might not even surface at the outset. Crazy times.

The surplus from not spending on spring sports is going to be needed to cover part of the loss of revenues from not having the winter sports tournaments. If the Pac 12 would have gotten 6 teams into the dance and couple of them advanced a couple of rounds, you are talking about a lot of money that won't be coming in to each conference school.

NCAA made an announcement about extending eligibility for spring sport athletes. Details to be ironed out in the coming weeks.

The NCAA will have to make one-time exceptions for the 2021 season.
1. The 27/35 man roster restrictions will have to increase. 2. The number of scholarships will have to increase.
The NCAA will want to accommodate the loss of a year's eligibility by increasing roster size to cover all returning players plus incoming freshman recruits. The limit of 11 1/2 schollies should also be increased to accommodate the swollen rosters.

NCAA rulings and increases in rosters and schollies effect every spring sport, Title IX, university budgets. It's going to be a very tricky issue that will need universities to sign off. There may be even options for schools to not buy in?! Will be interesting.

Agree. Many moving pieces in this puzzle.
We are only carrying 3 seniors on the current roster of 35 - Armstrong, Mulholland and Jones. Who would come back for the additional year and who might receive their degree and choose to move on and begin their career.
In addition, we currently have 4 red-shirt juniors on the roster who could opt not to return after 4 years in the program. Casey, Zalesky, Verburg and NcGarry fall into that category.
We possibly have 4 juniors that could be selected in the MLB June Draft.
With 15 freshman joining the team this fall, our roster might swell to 45 during fall ball. Where will the NCAA reset the 35 man limit for 2021?
Will the maximum of 27 players on scholarship be raised? Will the 11.7 scholarship allocation increase enough to offset the one-year eligibility allowance. The NCAA had discussions late last year regarding a bump in the limit from 11.7 to 14. Now might be the time to implement that.
Scott Barnes is out front pushing hard for the eligibility issue. It has strong support from the schools.
In most years, we have several players transfer to gain more playing time. Make an allowance for that.
