Everything I've seen on pre-season polls has the Beavs sitting just outside the Top-25 nationally. The vibe I get is, We think you could be good but there are some unanswered questions in our minds. The most frequently mentioned questions seem to be directed at last year's lack of offense compared to preceding OSU teams, the change in program leadership, Yeskie's departure, impact of Rutschman's departure and challenging schedule that includes the PAC-12 slate, Oklahoma State, SDSU and Mississippi State on the road. There appears to be universal agreement that we have good pitching, starters and bullpen.
A strong showing over the 4 games in Surprise may erase some of the doubts the writers have expressed in the pre-season analysis and prognostication. This is one differs slightly from others but makes the point -"we're not sure". From D1baseball.com
Oregon State
It’s a new era in many ways in Corvallis. In addition to having a new head coach in Mitch Canham, the Beavers no longer have heralded pitching coach Nate Yeskie and had plenty of turnover from a personnel standpoint. I feel good about the weekend rotation with Christian Chamberlain, Jake Pfennigs and Jake Mulholland leading the way, but the bullpen is somewhat of a question mark as the season nears. The offense has some solid pieces, too, with the return of Troy Claunch, Andy Armstrong, Alex McGarry and Jake Dukart, but somewhat must step up and evolve into that star player who can lead the Beavers to higher places. OSU could be much better than expected, but there definitely are questions abound.

FYI for those going to Surprise... a couple of notes:
-still can't get Sr ticket "package" online. The 8-game package is a great buy for $50 (tix are $15/game... $12 for Srs), but the Sr 8-game package is $40 ($9 in extra fees for each package online). I called earlier and she said she was sure they would make the Sr package available online, but as of this morning it was not. Called again this afternoon and she was surprised(!) it wasn't. So if you want the cheaper Sr deal you may have to wait to go to the box office.
-the Saturday session is (3) games, 10am, 2pm (OSU vs Zags) 6pm... it is also Family 4-pack day... 4 tix, 4 dogs, 4 drinks, 4 popcorns for $44. So it could be a bit more crowded than some years. In any event I do not remember them having a special like that???
-Sunday is only (1) game, OSU vs Zags @1pm

OS Official site not caught up with the time changes. I'm going to try to fit in some bike rides before the games. And 12:00 is just a little tight on the schedule. The Monday 3:00 pm game is perfect

Anything could happen this season. While tanking our RPI with a bunch of early season losses to 2nd tier teams would not be good, how we compete in league play is the real measuring stick. The trip to Mississippi could be ugly, if we are competitive in that series it will say a lot about where we end up in May.

D1 assessment of "offense has some solid pieces, too, with the return of Troy Claunch, Andy Armstrong, Alex McGarry and Jake Dukart" - fair enough; but in PAC-12 play last season, the #2 and #3 OB% players, behind Adley's insane .575, were Harvey & Ober.

We saw enough potential last season to not lose hope about offense. A healthy Ober would be a good start. A little more consistency from McGarry would frighten opponents.
I think Canham has a solid roster. If he can bring some excitement and magic, Beavs will be a force.

Wonder if he, like Casey, will be building a case for starting spots in pre PAC play - or going all out for the W-L columns! Casey always seemed to pull the right triggers, and the kids usually responded. Hope he, Canham, starts off with a strong and stable squad to work with . Above all, please no serious injuries this year ! Good Luck Mitch - Go Beavers !

The core values of this program remain constant.Players come and go.This edition will show why they were recruited. I hope to see a return to..Get'em on..Get'em over..Get'em in...constant offensive pressure.Hit and run...sacrifices...steals...We don't need the long ball to be successful.Constant contact.Put the ball in play. Then throw strikes be aggressive in the strike zone.Be solid defensively. In short,Beaver baseball.....

Yep love that type of approach. Been missing out on the bunting and running game ( consistent pressure), and would be great to see that again. Key to all of this is the pitching staff and relievers, plus the up the middle defense . Can’t wait - Go Beavers !

I don't see any time change. Remember, Arizona is on a different time than PST. BTW, in the six years I have been going to Surprise senior passes have never been available on-line, only at the box office.

I’ve been to the last 5 years in Surprise, and never got tickets online beforehand. Get ‘em at the window and save the fees!

Stroll back to the parking lot for a final beer or (and) brat, and still have plenty of time to enjoy warmups after you enter ballpark. It is NOTHING like Goss in terms of tickets/seating.

So that one azzhat security manager won't give you the stink eye because you don't have a approved regulation clear bag & think you are trying to smuggle in a pop & a subway sandwich?

"Security" at Surprise Stadium is typically Senior Citizen volunteers. Very nice folks. But they will often search any bags or packs. I usually bring in an empty Sili-pint to provide a bit of extra insulation around my (sorta overpriced) beer.
