The strength of the 2020 MLB Draft will be pitchers, especially college pitchers, which coincidently was the weakness of the 2019 Draft. This year's draft has 8 college and 4 high school chuckers slated to go in the first 25 selections.
Jesuit's Mick Abel is slotted at number 9 with only right hander Jared Kelly from Refugio, Texas slotted ahead of him among the prep hurlers. Nick Bitsko, a rising RHP from Central Bucks HS in Doylestown, PA. at # 15 and Alex Santos, a RHP from Mt. St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, NY at # 25 are the others slated to go in the first 25 selections.
In Baseball America's Top-100, there are 47 pitchers ranked, and only 11 are southpaws. 30 are collegians, 17 are preps. There are two ranked with Oregon State ties.
Mick Abel, a Class of 2020 signee at #9 and Kevin Abel, currently rehabbing an injury at # 59.
Points of interest: Torkelson is number 1.
Tyler Soderstam a catcher from Turlock, CA. is ranked # 21 - a first round choice? Soderstam was committed to OSU before flipping to UCLA. College ball may not be in his future.
