Not a diss, but in many ways AAA is by far the easiest way to break in young managers. Players are older, most will be close top Darwin's age. Many already had cups of tea at the MLB level. Youngsters are highly talented, been schooled at lower levels. Not as much teaching, more shuffling paper with rehab and short term stop overs. And, more direct control/input from the big club. He'll learn the ropes and move around. Being trusted with the prizes of the organization is typically at the AA level. But, each organization has their own philosophies.

Nashville AAA Roster (which is updated already to list Darwin as Manager), shows the average age of the players to be about 7 to 8 years younger than Barney. At this point however it includes NO player that is on the 40-man MLB roster. When those that are on the 40 man, but who don't make MLB to start the 2020 season, are sent down to Nashville, the average age of the AAA team will likely go up.

is this a long play by Darwin to be ready for a job if and when Portland gets a team.
