I know that it has a lot to do with the fact that Eggers actually likes OSU, but I consistently find that if I want anything fresh and positive regarding our athletic programs, he’s the man in the media world. The Gazette-Times and Democrat Herald are pretty good for obvious geographical reasons, and I feel like the Register Guard is decent given it’s location, but when it comes to mass distribution, nobody else in this state holds a candle. I actually often feel smarter regarding our programs and athletes after reading Kerry’s stuff, whereas I often feel considerably dumber having wasted a few minutes on the garbage coming from the other bigger rags. I appreciated Casey’s comments about the three finalists to replace him. I especially liked the quote, “Mitch is a Beaver for life. I could see him being here for 25 years!” I’m excited to watch him grow in that role. If Casey decides to get back into the dugout, may it be either in MLB or as far from the West Coast as possible in the college game. I could imagine that if we hosted his team, there would be the loudest continuous applause for the opposing coach ever heard.

From first hand experience... he'd love it and be invigorated. Kids who really want to be coached up, aren't typically attending elite camps, and really play for the sake of playing... not because they think they're college/schollie type players. Plus, who wouldn't welcome him?!

The thought of Casey returning to OSU with another team would make me vomit. Yes a I would welcome him wildly but wondering how we possibly have screwed up that much for him to move to another team.

Please, we didn't screw up at all. As he clearly said (in this story, and many times previously), he was burned out. We gave him an entire year to think about returning, to the detriment of the program, and provided him with a golden parachute job. Any decisions he made were his to make. OSU did nothing to hasten his departure, and did everything reasonably possible to encourage him to stay.

Casey and Peterson share a common personality trait that many great coaches have been both blessed and burdened with - obsession. Dick Vermiel, Urban Meyer, Bobby Knight, Jim Harbaugh, and many others. On the job 7/24, no detail to small to perfect, high level of intensity, total control of the process. Burn-out factor is much higher.

Personally, I fully expect Case to coach again . I’m hoping in mlb. Or even high school. I doubt he’d take a pac job, and hope it wouldn’t be on west coast.... although if he went back to college ball I’d think chances are it would be on west coast. Maybe UP.
at end of day, he could have any college job he wanted that came up.

Great article by Eggers. I totally agree with the comments thus far: Casey put his heart and soul into his job, to the detriment of other aspects of his life and when he started to question whether he could put in that level of commitment, it was time for him to step away and recharge.
I'm really excited for the future of Beaver baseball with Mitch at the helm and Bailes being the consigliere and it sounds like Casey is too. That is a big endorsement.
I don't have any illusions that Casey will stay away from the game and that may bring him back to Corvallis as the skip of another team (or if not at Goss, meeting up in Nebraska in June). I would applaud him, while he was here he gave it his all and Beaver baseball is what it is because of him. More likely though I think is a Brosius plan, he'll dabble in the bigs at some level below being manager, and then maybe look for an opportunity to stay in the development game if the travel of big league ball gets to be old hat.

My thought is that he is close enough to retirement age that he's not going to want to step into a rebuild job, and of course with his record he would be hired by a top 10 program in a heartbeat. But I suspect he would really make the same money in consulting, pro coaching, heck, making teaching vids. But whatever he does, more power to him.
