Sad news. A fixture at Beaver baseball games, war hero, and former Beaver player, Carl Gustafson passed away yesterday. Carl was a nose gunner on B 24 Liberators in Europe during WWII. He and his crew flew 27 missions including a crash landing in France. He and his wife were fixtures at Goss and he was always at the airport when the WWII planes would show up on tour. His name was included in a list of notables on the B 24. He was like a rock star at those exhibitions. After the war, he played baseball at Oregon State in 1947-1949. www.gazettetimes.com/news/local/b-gunner-gustafson-to-receive-legion-of-honor/article_314eccf7-e21d-5d59-8f5f-7389d5589c95.html

Definitely a great Beaver. A fixture below the pressbox at Goss with his wife. I think it was even this last season that Parker commented that Carl nabbed a foul ball though I didn't spot Carl at very many games in 2019.

truly sad news. they do not make them like that anymore, he represented a generation that today is almost gone. he was made of the right stuff. beaver baseball hopefully has a tribute for him this spring. i would love to see his seat dedicated to him with a plaque honoring his service.

Carl was involved with our fraternity. He did repairs over the summer and upgrades as we went along. He was always around. Always helpful and keeping an eye on things. I believe he was in on a major remodel that is ongoing now as well. It's got to be about 50 years of volunteering
Godspeed Carl Gustafson
