I'm sure the voters of Deschutes County would happily approve a tax levy to upgrade the stadium to MILB standards. Voters in Eastern, Central and Southern Oregon are generally predisposed to approve bond measures of this sort. Deschutes County? I don't think so. Way too may retirees who don't want to pay taxes for things like schools and parks. Maybe it's changed since I lived there, but I doubt it. Even though my moniker is TigardBeav I live in Bend. Bend Park & Rec is well funded. They are good at putting in neighborhood parks Part of that is the SDC on new construction. Plus I think there was a big bond measure a couple years ago. Bend Park & Rec put in a surf wave in the Deschutes river. I thought what a waste of $$$. But you know what, the wave is used year around. Summer there can be 10-15 surfers lined up. BP&R also did an ice skating rink that is pretty well used year around School levys pass easily. There is a school building boom on now. Elementary school opened this fall near us. I drove by and there was a portable outside. No idea what that was about. They couldn't be crowded already? New high school under construction at south end of town I have seen no evidence of voters starving services here

School district did a terrible job at adjusting boundaries. Silver Rail which has only been around for a few years is already about 75 over capacity and they are putting a bunch of new homes at the old gun club which that school will have to absorb. Look for controversy as they don't dare screw with the West Side and the magnet schools. Bend needs a couple or three new elementary schools quick.

Bring A ball back to Bend. Might be a little cold, but it is generally dry . Valley HS teams frequently come to Central Oregon in early OOC games. In MLB’s viewpoint, roughly a quarter of all current MiLB clubs far fall below the level of facilities they view as needed for their minor league players. MLB has essentially put the onus on MiLB to find a way to guarantee those stadiums will all reach what MLB deems as acceptable standards in the near future. Vince Genna is a dump. It is nowhere close to being an acceptable professional baseball venue, and would take an infusion of millions of dollars to make it so. I’m likely in minority, but as a frequent attendee at V Genna, I actually prefer summer league college ball to Class A. Just wish that the Elks could re-establish the OSU connection that grumpy, former Elks manager, Alan Embree burnt down. I’ll cherish forever getting to see 1-week-out-of High School Cadyn Grenier show the 98% college player WCL how it’ should be done at SS. As far V Genna being a ‘dump’, no pun intended, but if you use the bathroom out the LF line in field house, instead of the under grandstand facilities, about 50% of the ‘dumpiness’ fades away.

Elks have gone downhill since Richards sold the field house and gave up the operations.

Here's a link to an article detailing the 42 teams that MLB is planning to cut from the minors. Looks like Salem/Keizer and Tri-Cities of the NWL are on the chopping block, along with most (all?) of the Pioneer, Appalachian, and New York-Penn leagues. Every article I've read about this situation basically says MLB is just trying to make themselves look good by reducing # of teams in an effort to pay minor leaguers more. Although, I'm not sure I agree on that, as they haven't put into place any concrete pay raises, and are going to create quite a PR issue in the 42 cities/towns they are pulling out of. Seems like MLB is willing to let NCAA and Independent Leagues find the "diamonds in the rough" for them. I say it's a big mistake to remove pro baseball from smaller towns where people may otherwise not be or become baseball fans if not for the local 9.

That would suck - they are just trying to save on team costs, when it comes to coaches, travel, etc, the end cost of running the team far outweighs what they are currently paying players. Cities like Salem, which have good home attendance, will be losing a lot. On the other hand, we'd probably have a much closer wood bat college ball team to play very quickly.
