About 2 weeks ago, Daniel Susac, a nationally ranked catcher from Sacramento decommitted from Oregon State and said he would play at Arizona instead. There was a thread on this board in response to the flip. In that thread, I commented;
"The real concern for Beaver fans now becomes Yeskies gambit to flip the pitcher, Anthony. Anthony and his cousin Daniel have been battery mates since childhood. Yeskie's ability to pry the catcher away from his OSU commitment may be putting pressure on the pitcher to follow suit and flip to UA."
OSU's relationship (Casey, Bailey, others) with Jesuit HS assistant coach John Susac is key - what is the family thinking?
This week it came true. Nate Yeskie was able to flip the young pitcher from his OSU committment to Arizona. Anthony Susac, a strapping 6-3, 215 pound Junior pitcher with a 93 mph fastball and the number 26 ranked player in the Perfect Game Top-100 for the class of 2021, will pitch for the Wildcats. The bottom line for OSU is our former pitching coach has been successful in leveraging his personal relationship with the Susacs into landing the #62 player in the 2020 class and the #26 player in the 2021 class for his new boss at Arizona.
Clearly, the Susac boys chose the coach over the school. There had to be a strong bond there. Both are at this point, being scouted by MLB and the possibility of one, if not both signing out of high school is certainly possible.

The switching of commitments, the transfer portal, jumping from one team to the next, with 'buddies' in tow, and all of that BS , are just other reasons to lose interest in sports altogether. Yes, these things happen and the impact is totally dampened day one and, over time, but ( athletics in general ), how can you get behind and support a 'team' at any level - when that 'team' does not represent anything at all that you can connect with - year over year. The NBA is the worst ( although kudo's to Damian and CJ for having demonstrated great character and an identity that represents Portland Trailblazer Basketball ), and so I will continue to support and follow them. I am going to have to put College basketball next, and I won't even give examples - but, it is ALL about winning with whomever wants to improve their financial or personal situation. The Olympics used to be pure and each country actually represented itself with players from that respective Country- very easy to get behind team USA if you are an American. Now, seeing lifelong American players playing for Italy, or the like - because they could not be selected for the US team, really dilutes pride and enthusiasm in the sport itself. I won't even watch pro sports anymore ( unless there is a storyline of interest or the potential for an upset - that may make the game interesting).It is only going to get worse because there is always ' money' at the root of the problem. Oh well, hopefully there will be some 'feelgood' sports stories that will restore people's interest in their sport of preference. This Susac deal is easily scrubbed from any consideration because they can both be easily replaced due to OSU's elite status with a clean program. The beauty of our baseball program is the 'bad weather' team and the Northwest athletes that comprised most of the roster. Easy to get behind that type of team and program -, Now, the problem - the NCAA and the 3 year Pro opportunity. I hate that, you either go straight to the Pro's out of high school or you stay all 4 years. Also, why can't these kids get full rides ? They play 60 games or more, travel like crazy, to play the most difficult sport in the world, and they get very little athletic scholarship money. Not ranting about the Susan's or Yeskie - just about losing all connections with the sports world.

You live in a very selective world , It's a plea to bring back some sanity to the sports world.... not that people like you even care. it's criticizing where things are headed. I don"t like 'accepting change or inactivity' . Maybe others do, that is fine. Attendance is down and you see more support for the least exciting of all sports ( soccer ), than you do for our supposed National pastime. If we don't change to amateur and professional business models - we are going to have nothing to enjoy 'as a fan'. Oh well .....

We all live in the same "world" yet are able to live without the object negativity and ethnocentrism. Posting blathering rants on a specific fan message board doesn't make you special or part of any "solution". Just a negative, judgmental poster who makes random connections, who then attempts to denigrate others without the same fatalistic life views.

It sucks the second Susac has bailed.
The future will determine if we're better off with Canham instead of Yeskie and the Susacs. I like our chances.

I would take the current state of our program over that of U of A any day of the week. When we played them in 2018 at their place they were quite the chippy little group. Clearly they had the talent on the field to play with the eventual National Champs, but in heart and mind they just didn't seem to show up everyday. I do not think that the addition of one pitching coach changes an entire culture of a team. If recruits and their families don't do their homework on this one, so be it.
