I love Art Pierce. That dude is a hell of a running back. When he committed, Storm Woods was about to start his senior year and he was going to be a part of GA's first full class. Definitely thought he had a chance to be a starter.
Then Nall comes out of nowhere. Could've decommitted knowing Nall still had two or three seasons left, but he comes anyways.
Freshman year he busts his butt and becomes the backup RB as a true freshman and runs for 500+ yards on over 5 ypc. Good numbers....definitely good enough that he could've looked to transfer somewhere and be the guy, but he doesn't.
Prior to his sophomore season, a medically retired Thomas Tyner shows up. He doesn't pout, doesn't look to transfer, and sticks it out and averages 4.8 ypc in his limited carries. Also, the head coach bails mid-season and his position coach heads back to Florida (his home state). Still, he comes back to OSU because junior year, he's the obvious front-runner for RB1.
Junior year rolls around. New coach, new system. Has 168 yards and a couple TDs on the ground a 43 yards receiving against THE Ohio State University. He was running away from a defense loaded with 5* talent. Starts piling up yards on Southern Utah the next week, then gets hurt on a routine tackle. Out for a month. While he's gone, this true freshman Jermar Jefferson starts piling up yards that would've been his if he was healthy. Through the first four games he played in 2018, he averaged almost 11 carries a game. He would get 11 carries in the last four games combined. Again, he's got a redshirt year to burn and could go somewhere else and try to be the guy.
Now it's his senior season. It's clearly Jermar's job to lose, and now he's listed as an OR on the second string with a redshirt freshman.
Not once have I heard of this guy complaining. He's a two time honorable mention Pac-12 All Academic Award winner. Not once have I seen or heard anything about him getting in trouble or saying anything ridiculous on Twitter. In fact, the last thing he tweeted was a video of Ryan Nall running wild in the preseason with the Bears. I can only come to one conclusion: he must love being a Beaver. I'm a big Art Pierce fan, now and always.
