...lots of grumbling around here about his baseball announcing skills, or the lack thereof. But a few things to keep in mind... 1) Jon is NOT primarily a baseball announcer. His forte is basketball, and he's not at all bad at that; 2) Jon is just filling in until MP's return. He's not replacing him. And Jon doesn't pretend to be the second coming of Vince Scully. He freely owns up to his play-by-play inexperience; 3)As near as I can tell, he's working on his own....which means he's likely SIMULTANEOUSLY keeping track of stats, doing the PBP and adding features/vignettes about the players, all with no assistance. That's a tall order for any announcer, much less one as inexperienced as is Jon; 4) Yes, he does miss some of the in-games finer points. But, in the end, we do know what's transpired. Moreover, I like his enthusiasm for the game and for the Beavers; 5) Finally, just relax....today is Jon's last game of the 2019 season. MP will be back for next Friday night's game. .

Well said.
If you want to bitch about JW, first take a trip to any other college town and turn on the AM radio. Jon is right in line with what college baseball fans around the country get all season long. We're all spoiled by Mike Parker, and that isn't fair to Jon.
And, second, put yourself in Jon's shoes for just a moment. Despite your inexperience, you are put in as the backup to an award-winning performer. You are responsible for every word of a 3-plus hour broadcast, and every mistake you make is amplified and broadcast to thousands of people. Not many of us could talk for three hours about any subject without sounding like a blithering idiot - lord knows, a lot of us can't write two paragraphs on a bulletin board without sounding like a blithering idiot. It is a recipe for embarrassment, and most of us would never take up that challenge. Jon does it with enthusiasm.

grackle - - thanks for the info - -I tuned in late and wasn't sure what's what with the announcer..... Gritty of Jon to accept this assignment....Working in M's shadow is a tough enough job.... Tied in the 9th, on the verge of going down 0-2 in the series sure didn't make it any easier !! GO BEAVS !!

Well, I flip-flop on Jon, this year more than others. In the past, I’ve liked him because it gives a homey feeling to the early games. But this year has been harder than in the past. When there’s no video, sometimes his lengthy pauses mid-play frustrate me. When there is video, what I see and what he says don’t always match. LOL! Two different games!
I get it. He’s on his own and UCLA, especially, is not kind to opposing team’s broadcast team.
However, all of this begs the question: Why? We are National Champs. We have put a quality product on the field year after year. Why can’t the university support the team and fans a little better?

I much prefer Jon Warren over Mike Parker. Mike Parker, the storyteller, drones on and on when I want to hear about the game (doesn't matter what sport). Jon Warren is enthusiastic, and, is very likable. I really like the way Jon does the baseball games. Yes, there are times when he is inaccurate, but he catches himself now, and corrects. Since Daryl Aune is no longer available, give me Jon Warren over Mike Parker.

Jon is better than Kip. Bring back Jay! And yes I do remember the other Pac 11 broadcast teams. And the 4 seeds in Regionals. The first year Jon was kind of thrown into it. It was bad. By the 2nd game Hank had to sit in with him to make some sense of it all. Jon does a lot better with a color guy. But we are 3 years in. I wish that Jon would take some time with Mike in the booth watching & learning. See how Mike sets up his notes. How he prepares. How he manages the booth & the broadcast. Watch the play & tell us what happened. For a while he was trying to score the game while reporting. I think he is using the live stats now. Which is progress. He hasn't seen enough baseball to score quickly and also tell us what is going on. He also hasn't seen enough baseball to know when it's a lazy fly ball or it's a moon shot HR. I don't listen to much pregame interviews. The ones I have heard he does a decent job. Which tells me if he has time to prepare he can do a good job I switched over to Jon before McGarry hit his HR. He does have enthusiasm. I think he has potential. I'd like to see him work on fundamentals

So make that two.

I have tried a couple of times to listen to Jon but after a couple of innings, I can't bear to listen to him. I know he tries but he doesn't know the game and it shows. Parker by far has a way with presenting the game to his listeners. The one game I listened to earlier this year that Jon was trying to cover, the opposing team had loaded the bases and the Beav's brought in a relief pitcher....we got two outs and Jon said the Beav's were just about of the jam and our pitcher would be continuing his scoreless inning streak....next pitch was a bases clearing double. Sorry but the inning is not over until the third out is made....Parker never does that....

Plus he makes me laugh multiple times during the broadcast.

All of your points are valid but I can't listen to Jon unless it's the only option to follow the game. My biggest gripe is his excited tone of voice when the opponent does something positive. Don't need an over the top Homer calling the action but need to be able to anticipate something good or bad happening based on inflection of the voice. Sometimes it sounds like Jon is happy when something bad happens.
