Honest question: How many on here feel that the Pac-12 is falling behind in virtually every sport (Baseball Excluded), due to the Pac-12 Network being so inferior to the other conferences Exposure??? It seems that maybe recruits realize that they have a much better chance of exposure in one of these other leagues??? What do you think? Thought this might be a good question at a slow time.?.?

Without regard to the entirety, I will say that the PAC12 International site gives more access than I have at home in Central Oregon.
And after the last two basketball games, maybe more access than I need.....

I definitely feel that the Pac 12 is falling behind in revenue sports due to the failure of the league administration to procure a television deal with more exposure. This fall, take a look at the televised football games...you will see days in which even the MWC gets more exposure than the Pac 12 outside of the Pac 12 network.
The Pac 12 blew by trying to go their own separate way, apart from the major media players like ESPN, and then compounded the problem by failing to secure deals with huge media companies like DirecTV.
The end consequence is that the revenue stream for other Power 5 conferences is crushing the Pac 12. They got more money. They thus get better coaches and bigger recruiting budget.
It's not all just media deals, however. Sports are a much bigger deal in the Midwest and south and it is no surprise that those regions have higher viewing rates than the west. Plus...the Pac 12 has been down for quite some time in the revenue sports, with some exceptions. It is and will be a vicious cycle: the other conferences have better media deals, thus more money and better teams. Because they have better teams, they will get better media deals and thus more money and better teams.

Thing is, the Pac 12 had the biggest media deal of all time.... until the next one. The Pac 12's time is coming up again in a few years. IF that one isn't the biggest deal out there, then there's some good evidence that the league is really bad at negotiating deals.

Well, the Pac-12 won 12 national championships last year. I think it is doing okay, except in the sports we care about... Football and Basketball.

Here's a population density map of the United States. There's your answer as to why the Pac-12 is falling behind. It's not just about recruiting and the number of athletes. It's the number of people interested in watching and buying tickets and paying for jerseys, etc.

For example, NYC only has 2x as many college football fans as Birmingham AL. link This is an old 2011 article, but it generally holds true I bet If you read down the article this is where the rubber meets the road, they sort of calculate the # of fans schools have. THE TOP 10--aka blue bloods SEC PAC12

The Midwest and Mountain West, with the exception of the 287/1-25 corridor near Denver, and the SLC metro area, are emptying out. Most of the smartest young kids don't want to live there, they migrate elsewhere after high school or college. The "brain drain" syndrome and overall ageing population is a real concern in the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, Iowa, etc.
