Every deep run requires at least one of our pitchers to pitch beyond what we have seen him perform. Last year Bryce stepped up and won some big games
My vote is Kevin Abel

Tweedt finds command of his breaking ball throws six important innings before Omaha. But Abel emerges as a star

If Abel channels Jorge, all is well.

Why just one? Stutes and Turpin did it in 2006, Tweedt and Abel in 2019?
Maybe Gambrell need to sacrifice a live chicken.....

Last year Bryce stepped up and won some big games Oh c'mon. Bryce was already "up". He didn't need to step up last year.

Bryce didn't start for more than a month before he stepped up and threw a five-hit, one earned run complete game against Vandy. In that time, he only came on once in relief to pitch an inning against Abilene Christian. Bryce then came on nine days later to throw an eight inning, two hit, one earned run game against LSU. In the three games before he lost his starting spot, his longest pitching performance was five innings. Bryce threw 3 2/3 against California and 1 1/3 against UCLA. Last year, Bryce stepped up and won some big games.

As a Frosh and most of the Soph seasons he'd tossed more innings than he'd thrown his entire HS and summer careers... by far. He struggled and was given time to recuperate. Bryce may be the most consistent in what he does mechanically. He's been basically the same underrated pitcher for 3 years. Maybe the most underrated ever(?) in recent (from the 60's ??) in OSU baseball history... 2016...26 app 70 IP... 10-1 w/2 sv 2.31 with .222 BAA Pac12 HM Louisville Fr AA & reliever of year Louisville AA 2nd team Perfect Game Fr AA 1st team NCBWA Fr AA 1st team 2017... 15 app 81+ IP 6-3 3.87 .232 BAA 2018... 15 app 89+ IP 9-1 2.81 .224 BAA 25-5 3.02 ERA .226 BAA 2.3 K/BB For a guy who was an MVP as a hitter/ 3B with the most IP in a HS at 17+

I think Abel could be up to the task. I’d like to see Gambrell make a recovery—clearly he’s got something but maybe like Fehmel last year, he got tired or lost confidence. I’d also be interested in seeing what Jake could do at the start of a game.

Freaking ball player and would play infield for many other teams.

If he's the athlete we think he is, he'll want it back. It's also a nice way to announce yourself to your last year of pre-draft eligibility. It's Gambrell.

My pick is Eisert. Although if Gambrell can get some fire after his rest, I can see him contributing big. He has some nasty movement with his pitches when he is on. Don't forget at the beginning of the season, he was our best pitcher until Heimlich and Bryce turned it on.

I've gotta stick with Abel - he has been solid to spectacular for 4 innings facing Furd and UCLA - that puts us into Eisert/Tweedt/Gambrell middle relief with Mulholland on the back end. Just don't let him go more than 4 tho.
