It's not crazy that he's under team control for so long - it's the way it is for EVERY player, and has been the same system (with a few minor tweaks) for at least a couple of decades. SaveSaveYou're right, crazy is not the right word. Let's go with wrong, or at least boring. The system overwhelmingly supports veteran ballplayers who have made it past team-control, and are often past their prime. Last year it was Granderson, this year it will be Bruce eating into the playing time of younger, more talented players that are under team-control, like Conforto and Nimmo.. never mind the difference in salary. Some Front Offices tend to trust in their farm and prospects more than others. The Mets FO's likes to work the free agent market, and as a consequence end up fielding vets with relatively large, short term contracts.
