I would love to see some of the following things coming out of spring ball-
1. True enthusiasm, energy, new life, excitement, positive vibe around the whole program from coaches, players & fans. It's been a rough patch under the old regime & the negativity around Beaver football was sniffing around the early 80's. Will it be a perfect spring....hell no. But let's give the support Coach Smith needs for coming home. Let's get fired up that the ex-players are excited & don't feel alienated like with old staff. They are juiced 2 have a Beaver at the helm. Also, embrace these young men that had 2 experience 1st hand Coach A's wonders of runnin a program.
2. Coaches building trust back in the program. Realizing that your coach HAS YOUR BACK. Trust in coaches & teammates is HUGE in team sports.
3. Consistency, a vision and a plan for this new staff. 3 HUGE things in developing a program. Having a belief in a system & defining this. Sure staffs adjust & try new things but a foundation has to be instilled.
4. Competition & development of players. One of the very few things Coach A left is young players that have played a ton of football at an early point in their careers. I think there's some talent accross the D with a bunch of young athletic secondary players & some talent with the LB crew. Offense I see some things to work with but need depth at RB & WR. Hopefully develop a QB pecking order .
5. RECRUIT, RECRUIT & RECRUIT! This staff has made some tremendous in roads in such a short amount of time. Keep it coming as it's a flat out grind.
Love to to hear everyone's thoughts on what they want to see out of spring ball. Go BEAVS!!

Fundamental tackling and blocking drills run over and over and over and over and over and over again. keep your feet. Square up, head up, wrap up. Over and over and over again. That is what spring should be all about. Yes, these guys need to learn new schemes, new vocabulary, new assignments... but the GA regime was highlighted by a glaring and disturbing lack of attention to detail, fundamentals, and doing the little things. I want Oregon State football to be the most fundamentally sound team in the nation. If we can just consistently and reliably take care of all the basics all the time, we are well on our way to winning a bunch of games. Awareness on the field, clock management, calling plays to where you have leverage, aware of down and distance. Running routes to the sticks, blocking the right direction, using the sidelines effectively... All of that. This spring should be dedicated to turning this team back into football players. How many Jordan Poyers, Mike Hass, Sammie Stroughters, Rodgers brothers, etc do we need to come through here to prove you do not need to be the biggest, the fastest, and squat the mostest, to be the best damn player on the football field? Those guys were the best because of instincts, because of fundamentals, because of heart and drive.

Fixed it for you
I want to see a Pac-12 level offense and fundamentally sound defenders! I believe we have the staff to deliver that. And I believe the "Jimmy's and Joes" will answer the call!
Go Beavs!!

Solid work on sound fundamentals across the board. Blocking, tackling...I want to see a team that has been taught how to play football.
Also, solid work on schemes and playing in position, especially on defense. I want wide open receivers against our defense to be a rare, rare thing.

According to Danny Moran via Twitter - Bright has been suspended indefinitely. No details from CJS.
So I guess that's a "things i don't want to see" during spring practice...
Also per Moran: Christian Wallace is now a running back.

I'm very intrigued by Wallace moving 2 RB. Exciting stuff there. Not good news w/ Bright

Back to things I want to see.. Aside from the obvious "be better at stuff"
- A healthy Luton would make me feel better about the QB situation. Would like to avoid a QB battle that extends into late August. - A feel for what our actual offense will look like - Pecking order established at RB. - Updated inventory of what we have on the D-Line heading into the fall. Not feeling so good about our D-Line this season, I guess because it's basically the same d-line as last season... Hopefully Tibesar and co. can work some magic. - Hearing about some guys who have made a leap from last year.

What I Wanna see is, 1. Our QB's scrambling around and running for TD's. 2. Speedy and strong HB running for 30+ yard gains. 3. Quick tempo offense. 4. Super aggressive defense. 5. A kicker who can kick 48 yarder when the game is on the line, and a punter who can bomb it all the way down field close to the goaline. (Tired of the dumb rugby style Punting..) 6. Energetic team that has hunger to win and fight really hard for a full 4 quarters. 7. No lazy coaching! I was a energetic amped coaching staff!!

Having an offense that makes sense with the existing personnel.
Having a defensive line that isn't blown off the ball every single play.
We start there, and move up the list.

No more running off the round pegs and then trying to cram the remaining square pegs into the round holes on offense. Take the guys that are there and run something that they can do consistently well. Hopefully, a vastly improved offense will allow the defense to play a little faster. The 3-4 has a chance to be effective, if the offense can at least keep it competitive. Playing a 3-4 from behind is the textbook way to turn a slight deficit into a rout.

IMO Luton is going to be leaps and bounds better this year than last. For certain he's getting 10X better coaching.
