They looked like crap. Holiday was out of control and Welsh was absent.

Alford is basically Steve Lavin 2.0. Good recruiter, but a very average coach.

Alford is basically Steve Lavin 2.0. Good recruiter, but a very average coach. Which is why I'm a charter member of various organizations such as #KeepAlford #AlfordStrong #HurryFindMoreBallBrothers #AnotherChinaTrip2019

"We do not expect to make the Final Four every year. And, we most definitely do not expect to win championship every year." Maybe THAT is the problem. Expect middling success and fall short, you get a middling minus team. Expect an NCAA Championship and fall short, you get a Final Four team. Yes, we've had a 28 years drought. Yes, Corvallis is difficult to sell to 18 year-olds interested in bling, a night life, and being a star on a large tv-market team. But if we are willing to accept a 17-win team, we can't be surprised when we get a 15-win team. Just sayin'.

Really? What in your life experience has ever worked that way? Expect your F150 to get 40 mpg, and you just end up stranded on the side of the highway. Expect to lose 30 pounds in 30 days on your super-diet, and you just end up dehydrated and sick. I'd love it if you came to my poker game with those sorts of expectations!
Fans with that attitude are only poison for a program. Poison. As a fan, your high expectations do nothing to help success, and if the disease spreads too far it can wreak devastation. How many programs have we seen destroyed because they fired a good coach in a down year, only to discover that the hot young coach coming in wasn't all that?

Alford is basically Steve Lavin 2.0. Good recruiter, but a very average coach. Everyone was making the Arizona State vs. USC argument. I personally thought that USC should have gotten in over UCLA. I think that that would have been a better argument. The Bruins were there because they were good a decade ago. Now, if Arizona State loses to Syracuse, the Pac-12 got hosed argument evaporates. As far as Oregon State 2018, I was looking at Pomeroy's rankings. He has a metric called "Luck." The Beavers rank as the 12th least lucky team in the country. The least lucky team in the Tournament? Arizona State, the 21st least lucky team in the country. Pomeroy indicates that luck over the course of a season tends to approach zero.
