Nothing annoys me more than catching a few minutes of a Mariners game or Blazer basketball in the car and getting out after a short ride STILL not knowing the score, smh...
I've actually heard Jerry Allen say, on multiple occasions, "Did you see that?!". Uh, no, Jerry, I DID NOT "see that". I'm listening on the radio. Good Lord.
I used to make a game out of the lack of information given during Mariner's radio broadcasts when Dave Niehaus was announcing. I would get in the the car to head home from work and see if I could make the entire 30 minute drive home without knowing the inning, the opponent, the numbers of outs, and the score. I never did quite make the entire trip without being told those things but I got close. I'm sure there were multiple times where 20 minutes elapsed without me knowing at least one of those crucial pieces of information.
Mike Parker drives me a little crazy with how negative he gets when things are going poorly (I don't need the announcer to make me feel worse than I already do) but he is one of the best at always letting the audience know the situation in the game. I know that I'll only have to listen for a few minutes to know the score, quarter/inning, time, etc. He'll also often recap what happened earlier in the game.
Parker's noticeable grief at the Beavers playing well is part of what makes him endearing to me - along with his elation at the wins.
It's not quite like hearing Darrell Aune say "and it is BEDLAM at Parker Stadium!" but Mike's call of Simonton's TD to seal the victory against SC in 2000 (voice cracking and all!) still gives me goosebumps.
Parker IS Beaver football, to me.
