Says he doesn’t want to hurt himself for the draft. I get that point but way to leave your teammates out in the cold during turbulent times in that program. Steven Jackson played in the Vegas Bowl after he declared but obviously a big difference in character between the two.

If I was his coach, the only way he would be at the game was in a paid seat. Plus he would have cleaned out his locker and have no contact with the team.

I agree. Yet another new facet of college football for me to hate.

So... CM of Furd is a chump too?
Uck or not... risk possible multi million dollar contract to play in a minor bowl. No coach or teammate begrudges him missing this game.

I lost a lot of admiration for McCaffery due to that. No play, no vacation, and certainly no leading the team huddle. Guys play hurt and through pain all year and are still there. I don't like it, that's all.

And obviously if he's leading the huddle the powers that be are all in. Their call... and like I said he came back for this season and has done that school proud. No reason for 60 more minutes of risk... other than to be a hater.

Freeman made a business decision. Happens all the time college football. Coaches leave for new opportunities, ADs fire coaches, Presidents fire ADs. Kid does it, ppl get their knickers in a bunch. It was a reasonable decision.

It was a reasonable decision. Guys refusing to play in bowl games is a relatively recent phenomenon. I realize most of them will withdraw from school after the Holidays. I still hope the coaches "ceremonially" pull their scholarships. I suspect anyone "refusing" to play in regular season games would face that consequence. It's certainly a business decision, and it might even be the smart move. I still don't think it's a good look. SaveSave

Why play in the civil war game, then? Why play another down of college football once you're a lock for the NFL? Where do you draw the line?

With the way Boise owned the line of scrimmage, the decision looks even better. And Freeman is still a chump, cuz he played for the *ucks. 😀

Freeman not playing killed Oregon. On the first possession, they faced a 3rd and 2. Got stuffed. That set the path for how the game would go. Oregon could not get the tough rushing yards and that forced the entire load onto the QB, who was facing a tough pass rush. Yikes for the Eugenians!
To think the entire D comes back next year at Boise State, wow, I bet their fans are salivating! If they can KO the OSU with cowboys and Pickens, then they have a solid chance to run the table and make a BCS bowl.
As for Oregon, had the coach remained, their talent level would have climbed up to playoff contender level. Now that won't happen. 69-10 will go down as a bad defeat for us but it will be Oregon's high water mark for a while. In the meantime JS will build the dam and get the Beavs back to playing competitive football. Since revenge is a dish best served cold, why not get the next win at Reser on a chilly November day? Win by 1 point and let that win drop our rival from a better bowl or some other goal of theirs to give them the most sting. We have lost plenty of one possession games and even one point games over the decades where it sure hurt what could have been a good or great season. Let the greenies suck up some of that misery!
