I don't think any girl at this level pays a lick of attention to the level of competition for playing time as they are being recruited. If Kelly Graves is calling on you, you have to believe that he thinks you are going to get out on the floor. Yes, some coaches try to stockpile talent, but that isn't obvious to the recruits. In fact, most players want to win and they get *more* excited when they see that they will be playing with first-rate talent.
And it's silly to talk about UO's talent as though Graves has some sort of recruiting magic. We have more 4- and 5- star recruits on our roster, and next year will widen the gap. Graves struck gold with Ionescu, but that's the only top-25 recruiting class he's had.

And Aleah is obviously quite smart (and/or she talked to KTMac)- Canby/Milwaukee/Salem is far enough away from Corvallis that you can do your own thing with zero parental interference, yet home is close enough to easily make it home on holidays, long weekends, refrigerator raids, laundry runs, and have familiar faces in the stands. She also apparently has a very young baby brother she seems quite fond of..... You aren't going to get any of that sitting in Terre Haute or Knoxville or wherever the heck Tennessee and Indiana are located. You barely can make it home at all (again, maybe that was part of the attraction). Note Goodman also committed quite early (during a SR summer camp to lock in her spot) since she probably surveyed the state of Oregon guard situation for 2017 and did the math. If you want any thoughtful/introspective player on the floor, the guard handling the rock is a good place to start. As I said - indications are that we filled our needs and recruited well from the 2017 crop of guards in the state......and as noted above, will be interesting to see how the next 4+ years play out for Yeaney, Westbrook and Goodman. Go Beavers! My niece, who is a friend of Bendu, strongly implied that was a major reason for her going to Indiana. I still remember looking at colleges to attend after HS, and had a far-flung school offered to pay my way and bring me there, I would have gone - and it had nothing to do with wanting to be away from my family, and everything to do with just wanting to expand my horizons. Horizon expansion wasn't as important to me once I realized how much more $$ it would cost to do that.

We get down on local recruits who leave the state, but I can't begrudge anyone in their youth who wants to spread their wings and see the world. Evina certainly isn't hurting her WNBA ambitions or getting any less visibility by being at Tennessee, and she gets to see a different (very different) part of the country compared to the Willamette Valley..... I remember packing all my worldly belongings in a beater car and heading for Corvallis from several states away, and the sense of adventure, freedom and opportunity to redefine myself somewhere new was very attractive. Go Beavers!
