This is a tough crowd.
Good thing we never hired Ed Orgeron. This thread would be 50+ pages long.

I saw it differently. The guy probably just doubled the quality time he gets to spend with his young family, and gets to raise them in a place that is pretty universally accepted as a great place to do so. And oh by the way, it's his Alma Mater and a place that he and his wife already had a deep love for.
I noticed and chuckled at a couple of the verbal gaffes, but my overwhelming takeaway was that he is grateful on so many levels to be here. He himself spoke of the need to be genuine and that's what I saw. A guy that was happy almost beyond words to be in his current position and let his guard down a bit to let that genuine happiness and excitement show. A couple words got mangled in the process, it happens to the best of them!

DE used to always call Jared Cornell Jared Connell, that little place on 385 where you turn east to go to Pullman.
He never could pronounce TJ's name.
He always mangled Tostitos in any Fiesta Bowl comments.
Good memories.

Still, my favorite thing about Erickson was the wry wit after a loss. When he said that Cesca went to hang himself and missed the chair when he went to kick it out from under him after one, I nearly died. In today's PC world he would be dragged up and down Pardon The Interruption for a week for saying that haha

Back to the original topic though - I was blown away by Smitty's presser. He has some gravitas, and he knows how to play to the crowd. Who didn't get goosebumps when he said "It's good to be home!"??
If that didn't give you chills, turn in your fan card right now. CJS has already won me over 100%.

The purpose if pointing out the single error he heard was to say the rest was darn near flawless... It is the thread title that could be perceived as demeaning. "A nearly flawless first presser" in the title...and then go on to point out the questionable word usage in the first post, might come across different.

Maybe he was nervous but..." He teached me " ? Thats the only negative I took away from our new coach's presser. Otherwise I am psyched for next season. Also used "compassion" when he I think he was reaching for "passion." I chalk it up to him being overwhelmed with emotion. After a week or so of settling in we can grade him again. I think he will pass next time.
