Amazing stat They had 97 digs to our 71. I don't know alot of VB nuances but I'm surprised we won per that stat. All the other stats were very close. The other way to look at it is they needed all those digs to take us to 5 sets :-) Thanks for the updates. I am not an expert on this, but for whatever reason the team loses that dig stat almost every match. I think it has to do with the style of play. This is made up for with 14 more blocks for our ladies and 7 less attack errors. We usually have more blocks than our opponents and obviously if you block the attack then you will have less digs. I venture that our team is very aggressive at the net and other teams are less aggressive at the net spacing more bodies to dig the spike. The high number of digs stat can also indicate good passing and execution to defeat the blocks. You probably already knew all this. My thoughts for what it is worth, absolutely nothing . Thanks BB. My two daughters played VB in high school but were never club players so I never got into the nuances as I said before. You enlightened me to new understanding. Thanks again. PS... I saw we had 53 assists and wanted to know the definition so googled it. I learned that the setter gets an assist on a kill. So, that being said, I noticed we had 64 kills. Were the 11 kills without an assist from killing the ball as it floated over the net or from a back row bump or both? Thanks

It appears Arizona State only had 2 kills without an assist. McLaughlin has 5 kills out of 6 attempts and is the setter so she probably chose to spike it on the second hit in the offense those times. This probably explains 5 of the 11 kills without an assist.

And somehow, in all of this, we dropped in RPI from 28 to 29.....have to quit playing those Arizona schools (I say that tongue firmly in cheek, ASU still trying hard to not go winless in Pac-12, and they may get there from here). I am pretty impressed with the turnaround afoot in WVB - most of this is being done with a bunch of freshmen starters, though finding a successor to Mary Kate will be a challenge (I deliberately did not say "find a replacement for MKM", talent like that is not replaced). Go Beavers!

I have followed VB for a while now and I have no doubt that this team is as good as I have seen in a long time. I did see the 2014 team that went to the Sweet 16 and I honestly think that this is a better team. Yes Mary-Kate is a star but they also have 4 freshmen that are regular starters and they are highly skilled. I think it is safe to say the the freshman setter, McLaughlin is one of the best in the Pac 12 and she has had a dramatic effect on turning this team into the team that it is currently. I am also going to put a vote of confidence in the coaching staff, I have coached before (although not at this level) and I like to watch the coaches in action. It appears to me that they work extremely well together and you can see the players responding well to the coaching. A friend of mine - who knows volleyball better than I, said that these coaches have done way more with the talent than a lot of other coaches in the Pac 12 who get many more highly touted recruits. Hats off to them as this has been the team of the fall by a mile! Maybe OSU should have looked at Mark Barnard way earlier!!!!

I am hoping Mark Barnard really likes it in Corvallis, because he was content to sit behind Taras for something over a decade.......I too wondered about how long we stuck with TL - he had all the credentials and resume fodder, and the Sweet 16 run was nice and bought him a couple more years. I am impressed with how well the team plays together, they are fun to watch. We have to remember what a Murderer's Row conference we play in in VB, and hope we are hot entering the tournament! Go Beavers!

I have to think he does, he stayed here for 10 or so years under Liskevych so I would think he likes it here. I have spoken to his wife at volleyball before (love the Australian accent) and she loves it here, that usually translates to the husband liking it as well. He has quite a resume himself having coached Australia at the Sydney Olympics and again in 2014 for 2 years during the international season. I have been told by what i consider a reliable source that he did a lot of coaching under Terry and the players really respond well to his style. Anyhow he and his staff and the team are doing a wonderful job and they are a very exciting team to watch, lets hope Friday night puts another W on the board.
