Pivec, KT, Gulich, and Kalmer all in double figures. Pivec and Gulich, double-doubles

Also don't be fooled by the offensive rebounding numbers. A blocked shot that the offense gets back counts as an offensive rebound. Beavs had a block party with 10.

Last season we got see occasional flashes of leadership from Pivec, though obviously deferring to Sydney for the most part. Today’s game displayed a full measure of that leadership. It was impressive. When Destiny joins in next season, Beavs will be off the charts in that category. Nice win today, even without much offense from Tudor. She’ll likely have many more “on” games, than “off” as the season progresses.

Agree on Pivec, she is uber athletic and basketball smart. If she makes a mistake ( almost never ), she immediately atones for it on the next play. Tudor has a very quick release, but she needs to be 'set' for that quick release to pay off. I hope that, this year, she will be able to utilize that release from 'less than perfect' set ups. Rationale is that, with a predictable shooting style - you are easier to defend. If you can manufacture shots, in the face of tough defense and/ or clock issues, you become a highly reliable 'go to' shooter when you need a hoop. That's what we had with Sydney and Jamie.

Props to North Dakota, they came out and put pressure on the boards and shot well from the outside. Also it helps to get offensive boards as well when you are taking long jumpers; ball tends to bounce over the crashing defense. But Pivec, Gulick, McWilliams and the new kid on the block, Corosdale, took control of the game in the last quarter. Pivec especially is a power player - I am more impressed each time I see her play.

My analysis, on the basis of one data point, the UND game:
Pivec - plenty of commentary above Gulich - grew stonger as the game progressed. Impressive how she can beat everyone down the floor. Complete player, needs to make those FTs..... Tudor - noticed this last year - she needs to get her feet set and slow down just a split second.....bet she isn't 1-7 again this season Kalmer - will need to move from "instant offense" mindset to sustaining it for the game. We will need her ability to create her own shot (not many on our team have that ability). She came in, was instant offense in the first quarter, and then tapered off. Bet we see a 30 point game from her this season when she realizes she doesn't have to get her money's worth in a very brief stint - minutes galore this season. Corosdale - will be starting at forward soon. Reminds me of Deven Hunter already. Some freshman growing pains ahead, but I see some serious potential. McWilliams - no one to defer to this season Katie! Was solid and I expect more growth from her, should be able to post up smaller Pac-12 guards, especially if those killer turnaround and fadeaway shots keep dropping. Grymek - didn't look like someone who was playing 20+ min/game the past 2 seasons. Nerves? Might be giving Gulich 90 second rests at the tail end of quarters until she advances more at this point. Washington - was really playing off her opponent, needs to tighten it up. Seemed a step slow tonight from where she was at end of last season. Thropay - not enough time out there for me to say anything (streaming wasn't working during her stint) Goodman - think they are bringing her back from whatever injury she had slowly.....
We better hope the top 7-8 can go 25+ minutes a night and get it done, and hope we can get Goodman some minutes soon... UND seemed well coached and was not breaking in a bunch of new players that hadn't played a ton together like we were, and it showed. Will be fun to see how this team develops and grows during the season. Go Beavers!

It was great to see KT come alive. While a ND player was at the free throw line, Coach called KT over and had a talk that lasted until we crossed half court. She then went out and scored with an aggressive drive and maintain the increased intensity for the rest of the game. Rueck didn't appear to be upset and he was calm when taking to her but whatever he said made an impact.
