besides potentially making up the death threats why (other than coming from a "big name" program) would people want a guy that can't win with all the advantage in recruiting florida has and think they are going to take us out of the basement when we have a lot tougher row to hoe? crazy

My initial thought was to pass due to the parallels between he and Andersen. There's been some discussion of this tendency to prefer an "opposite" approach to replacing coaches who departed under less than great circumstances. Nebraska replacing the prick Pellini with possibly the nicest man in coaching is a prime example. So yeah, the parallels are unsettling. But if McElwain is seriously a candidate, I think it would be foolish to dismiss him without taking a hard look. Outside of Tedford he may have the best resume of anyone mentioned. September 22, 2012 Utah State 31 - Colorado State 19 in Fort Collins. McElwain is a worse Andersen. If Andersen could not cut it here, McElwain is going to crater. Hard look taken. Dismissed. There are a few worse choices floating here (e.g., McElwain's train-wreck of an offensive coordinator), but McElwain is a dreadful choice, in my opinion.

"After failing to find any evidence to substantiate claims made by McElwain this week that his family and players received death threats, Florida administrators have worked to see if McElwain's allegations were enough to relieve the university from paying McElwain's full buyout of $12.9 million if he were to be fired." If he made it up, can that please kill any potential interest in him? Guy’s a total flake.

I'm wondering if every school now is going to ask their coach to reduce his buyout or try to make their coach out to be a nutjob. Seems that a precedent is being set right now.
