As far as donors go, the Reser family is by far the most invested in our athletics programs. Looking at this list, I wonder what we could do if one or two of these had a passion for OSU athletics like the Reser family:
Name Years They Attended Affiliation
Peggy Cherng 1969–1971 CEO of Panda Express
Randy Conrads 1972 Founder of Classmates.com
Timothy S. Leatherman 1970 Inventor of the Leatherman tool
Bernie Newcomb 1965 Co-founder of E*TRADE
Leonard Shoen ? Founder of U-Haul
Don Robert ? CEO of Experian
John A. Young 1953 Former president and CEO of Hewlett-Packard
Douglas Engelbart 1948 Inventor of the computer mouse

(for the record, not a huge fan of their beer, but my point remains)

Miller/Coors has a far bigger marketing budget than McMeniamin's, too.
I believe Doug Engelbart invented the mouse while working at Stanford, not as an individual who could have patented the technology and made a fortune.

I think a lot of these people just have philanthropic interests outside of college athletics, which probably means their heads are in the right place........... Peggy Cherng and her husband gave $30M to CalTech earlier this year. breakthrough.caltech.edu/panda-express-co-founders-give-30-million-to-caltech-for-medical-engineering/Randy Conrads gave $120K to OSU for its entrepreneurship program in 2007. www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2007/12/donation_expands_osu_entrepren.htmlCan't find much on Leatherman's charitable giving, but the company supports a bunch of local organizations through sponsorships, including Portland Fire and Rescue, American Hiking Society, Willamette Riverkeeper, Portland Police, and the Wounded Warrior Project: www.ledlenserusa.com/ll-outreach.htmlBernie Newcomb gave $6.1M to OSU in 1997 for scholarships in the college of business, then the largest stock gift in school history: business.oregonstate.edu/advising/my-resources/undergraduate-scholarships/newcomb-family-scholarshipBest I could find on Don Robert is that Experian gave $700K in cash donations as a company in 2007, but I do know that he's at least involved with the OSU College of Business, as he hosted a group of students in London last summer: blogs.oregonstate.edu/business/?tag=don-robertLeonard Schoen died in 1999. www.nytimes.com/1999/10/07/business/leonard-s-shoen-83-founder-of-u-haul-the-trailer-company.htmlJohn Young is 85 years old, but HP is very closely tied to Oregon State, mostly because of John Young advantage.oregonstate.edu/feature-story/hp-oregon-state-partnership-builds-better-products-stronger-workforce

They have given a lot of money to engineering department.

These are the years they graduated/went to school. Sorry, I'll edit that What does editing your list to still include someone who died 4 years ago accomplish? You're on a roll, huh? So, sometimes in life, people die. When they die, their heirs inherit their belongings. When that happens, sometimes that family still gives to similar causes that they had prior to dying. In some cases, the will of the person who dies states what should happen to the money should they die. I am sure that the Reser family still donated after Al Reser passed. I am sure of it.

Another very wealthy (but perhaps not very interested in OSU athletics) alum would be: Hüsnü Özyeğin (born in 1944 Izmir) is a Turkish businessmanin the finance sector, and a self-made billionaire. He is the owner of FIBA Holding, a group of mostly financial companies in Turkey including Fibabanka and Credit Europe Bank. He has a net worth of US$2.7 billion as of 2011. Also, perhaps Ken Austin of A-dec fame? More names here: www.osualum.com/s/359/16/interior.aspx?pgid=3002Go Beavs!

If I am not mistaken, an example would be Autzen Stadium, build 6ish years after Thomas Autzen died, with a large gift coming from the Autzen foundation, as directed by his son and U of O graduate son. Wealthy people very often set up foundations to distribute to charitable causes. Having an obvious connection to OSU makes them a valuable inclusion, dead or alive.

He is obviously one of OSU's wealthiest alumni, came back to give the commencement address this year and receive an honorary doctorate. He showed up at OSU with $100 and a driving desire to succeed. Was an SAE, Student Body President, played hoops for Slats, and is hopefully going to remember his alma mater in his will! www.osualum.com/s/359/file_lib/1/43/00_02_2027_ozyegin_634812459225308722.pdf?gid=1001&pgid=312&sessionid=9afc16c8-1135-412b-b015-2e1357317ba5&cc=1My favorite quote from this article -at one summer job he called people late in the evenings at a call center trying to set appointments for aluminum siding salesmen - the article says that he learned about trying to make a sale against tough odds. He learned about dealing with rejection. And he learned something else. “I learned many new cuss words during my tenure at the call center. I heard them all and even to this day, I can cuss better in English than 90 percent of Americans.”
