A lot of posters here raved ... RAVED ... about the hiring of Anderson. He was the second coming of Jesus. How lucky we were to get such a great coach considering when and how Riley departed. Just sayin' ... Yeah, and Gary totally opened the floodgates to criticism when he won exactly zero Pac12 games that first year and ran off a bunch of guys that might have helped the team. Gary gets criticism because Gary hasn't won hardly any football games and keeps getting blown out at a record setting pace. DONT TRY AND PUT THIS ON US. I'm not putting anything on anyone. I'm articulating an observation that Beaver fans are their own worst enemy. When Anderson was hired, positive --- perhaps unreasonably positive --- expectations were seen all over this Board. We see this every August, as well, as posters predict 8, 9, 10 wins. When the expectations aren't realized, posters become embarrassed and want someone to blame. Anderson and his staff have given posters great [earned, definitely] targets for their anger. Perhaps some posters on this Board should catch themselves before building up their expectations to unreasonable levels. The letdown will be easier to swallow then. Don't get me wrong -- I'd love to see a football national championship trophy paraded through the Quad. But I realize -- it's not going to happen here. This university administration is committed, as they should be, on academics rather than sports. The Alumni base doesn't have, nor would they contribute if they did, the funds necessary to make OSU a perennial top-10 football power. Add to that the fact that with respect to TV market and cultural life, Corvallis cannot compete with SF, LA, Seattle, Denver, or Phoenix for enough top-notch recruits to take us that far.

You gotta go 4 years back into Riley's tenure to find a 3 win team. The supposedly "soft" teams won at least 5 games. seems like a magic trick to win 5 games now. If Riley were in the mess that Anderson is in now (and he certainly was a number of times) he would maintain his cool, NEVER blame the players and keep even the underperforming guys on the field, especially if they were seniors. They might dog it for a couple of games then Hip Hip Hurray rise up and beat a Wazzu in Pullman for instance because the players took it upon themselves to get their sh!t together because they knew the coaches wouldn't do it for them. In fact the coaches would keep playing them even after they embarrassed themselves horribly. Yeah that would work about 5 times a year, sometimes 6. Hip Hip Hurray. Versus (7) in 2.25 years... ya he sucked. The old 2-4 wins as the "norm" versus an extreme... ya let's do that!

+100 It was a good hire. I have a couple Duck buddies who were worried about Anersen at the time. I have no duck buddies. Zero. Just sayin'. More to life than foosball man. Limiting oneself is losing oneself to having limited oneself from not losing oneself from not winning.
