If OSU gets more than 5 runs on Walker I will be very surprised and if they do we are in trouble. As a rule, we'll take 5 runs against anyone and expect a win. As of yesterday we have had 5 games where our opponent scored 5 or more runs, out of 59 total games. This team has been doing some statistically impressive things this year. I think LSU will be the toughest challenge we face in Omaha. Should be a great game. Side note: My one visit to LA was for a Union convention in NOLA. Everyone I met was fantastic. Very nice, friendly, cordial people. I'm certain y'all have your share of assholes down there, I just didn't run in to any of them. Same can be said for Oregon, and the PNW in general. People here are friendly and nice for the most part. (Except maybe to Californians...) So don't let the few assholes that you may encounter on here taint your opinion of the rest of us. Like most of y'all, most of us are great people to be around. Cheers! And Geaux Beavs!

At the moment, Lange isn't our best and he was still got picked 30th overall to the Cubs. His problem is he's been stating slow and then dominates. That can be a recipe for disaster. IMO Walker is our most consistent pitcher. He's been lights out his last few starts and pitches deep usually to the 8th inning. He has three pitches, but doesn't dazzle you with mph. He gets up to 91, but won't try to overpower you. When he pitches, the catcher rarely has to move his glove. He will be our ace next year and he's just a true freshman. If OSU gets more than 5 runs on Walker I will be very surprised and if they do we are in trouble. As far as our relievers, Gilbert and Hess are the class of that bunch. Gilbert can get it up to 94 mph and has good movement on his fastball. Hess just doesn't care who is at the plate. His fastball is big time major league stuff up to 97mph and his breaking ball is nasty at 81mph after it follows the fastball. But our hitters don't care who is on the mound out of anyone's bullpen, we strike out less and walk more, we grind, and we wait for the other team to blink - tiger, tiger burning bright, bullpen melting in the night......with apologies to William Blake.

Ras as Closer again if needed. I think he can slam the door closed again tomorrow if needed. Any concerns with that?

I'm one of those crazies that lugs a scorecard to every game and tracks everything down to pitch count and balls/strikes per at-bat, so I eat stuff like this up. The line about 5 runs there - I think we'd say that exact same thing about Fehmel - or any of our guys, really. Neither team can really expect a good end if we're coughing up 5+... both teams are just too good to expect that kind of outcome. Now watch, this thing ends up being some 14-12 slugfest that empties both bullpens... gack. Enjoy the game! Though I hope you'll understand I hope you won't enjoy the final score!

The game starting so early our time; I will have it streaming on one of our demo systems at work for customers and employees alike. At least this time the Boss (me), won't be so upset as my boss was in 1985 when we upset the Fuskies and I kept running off the floor to the back to listen to Aune in those last few minutes.
I really want a one-sided Beaver victory, but I know that the over-under for runs at one Vegas bookie is 8, with Beavs a slight favorite. The smart money (since I am not sure too many fans are in Vegas to bet when they could be in Omaha) is leaning our way there, but I imagine that it's all over the place and I just don't have the time to do a good evaluation - need our betting specialists to chime in there.
Me, I might be making a run over to Bi-mart for the king size Tums bottle in a few hours.

IMO, LSU's bullpen is just as good. Gilbert, Hess, Peterson, and Newman. 3 of the four can give you 3-4 innings each with Hess' fastball topping out at 97mph. But then again everyone's pitching at the CWS is good. Some deeper than others, but good pitching overall. Unfortunate LSU ate up so many arms in a loss. Hopefully that great bullpen can help Tigers with another game and you get another crack at Oregon State
