Probably not supposed to say this, but I honestly can't think of how the ducks could find a way to improve their coaching situation. That said I hope George's best uo season is behind him and they forever question this decision.

(Actually Rickey might be a surprisingly good coach)

Register Guard today said the extension included a pay cut... Can you say desperate? I was really hoping we had seen the last of George. Thought they might go after Checketts at UCSB. We know Stanford will be looking for a new HC.

Their fans just don't care about the program, so what pressure is there to remove him? As for George, he gets to continue coaching in the Pac-12, so why take a step down to a SoCal mid-major not named Cal-State Fullerton or Long Beach State? The peak has been established, and its just regional contention for them while he remains there.

Register Guard today said the extension included a pay cut... They are clearly not worried about him leaving for a better situation. Or maybe they'd be just as happy if he did?

They're probably hoping that Dan Hubbs doesn't pan out at USC or Tracy Smith gets removed at ASU, and the Trojans/Sun Devils take Horton off their plate.

Register Guard today said the extension included a pay cut... Offering an extension, with PAY CUT, may be a way of saying "so long". It's a tactic that MLB teams use often with under performing veteran players....hoping that they refuse, and leave.

In all honesty, taking off the orange colored glasses, the 'ucks have a young team, and I do expect them to be incrementally better next year (and us, well it's hard to top this year but we are going to be an experienced club!); there will be some hidden bonus for making the playoffs that will help his contract greatly in mu opinion. But for a guy with a ring and all the money in the world to have nothing to show for it after coming to the Hole is a big sin.

Ducks may be strong next year...may not be - tough to continue recruiting at a high level to a program that is obviously stalled out; and they lose their Friday starter. As far as OSU, losing all 3 weekend starters will be the main 2018 challenge for the Beavs. There are underclassmen ready to step up, and Pat Casey always seems to bring in at least one outstanding Freshman pitcher. Madrigal - Grenier return will key the defense...and offense as well.
