Question for the board: HOW does a coach "light a fire" under a struggling hitter? Tough to do. It's why baseball is SOOOO different than other games. We have three guys in the lineup today hitting below .250. A couple below .220. We're facing OUR pitching staff? That would explain it...

So... in a 0-0 game... struggling on offense... you get a leadoff hit... try to H&R... but, don't bunt a .211 hitter? Dbl play... just don't get it! Why do we have .211 hitting 3rd? He took good cuts in 'the cage'? Even though he dbl'd last AB... why .215 hitting 5th?

Why do we have .211 hitting 3rd? He took good cuts in 'the cage'? Even though he dbl'd last AB... why .215 hitting 5th? IMO because of Casey's legendary 'impatience' with poor player performance in prior games. It leads to questionable lineups in following games.

multiple beavs have chicken pox, per Pike Marker. Explains the multiple called 3rd strikes at the plate.

Wow. Tough win. I thought PC was going to "think" his way right out of the win. I feel as though I played. The boys need to hit the cages. For hours.

Man, I hope this Casey guy figures it out. To see the second-guessing on this board of his decisions, you'd think that he was a bum or a novice. I'm pretty sure he's won about 950 more games in his college coaching career than anyone questioning him.
I realize that we all want this team to hit .400, have a .009 team ERA, and NEVER leave a kid on base. Our poor showings in the real headline-grabbing NCAA sports (football and men's basketball) leave us feeling desperate for big winners in other sports - especially baseball, where we have a perennial shot at Omaha.
I'm right there with everyone on wishing that we hit more consistently as a team. We tend to get timely hits at crunch time - the mark of a truly great team, but we are running away with the PAC 12 race, and have generally great pitching and defense. I'm pretty sure these kids are working in the cages and trying to get better at the plate, and I'm certain that Casey knows how to coach and prepare his players.
The part that I don't agree with is insinuating that Casey doesn't know how and when to use pitchers or how to put together a lineup card. If he's hitting a .219 hiitter in the 5 hole (or whatever), there is going to be a good reason for that, be it injuries, tendencies against certain types of pitchers, etc. Our coach is remarkable, and he will get more out of his personnel than you or I could ever dream of.
We're not perfect by any stretch, but we have a great record, have been the #1 team in America for weeks, and there is a load of talent on the team. We all wring our hands and worry because we care and we don't want to fall on our faces in the post-season

Trust him!

Is Casey a great coach? Hell yes. Is he divine? Perfect? Above questioning? Hell no. Keeps us involved in the game. Those of you who want to be zombies and not question ANYTHING PC does.. Go ahead. Others of us like to think about situations too. Geebus.

Are we sure this is all Pat Casey pulling the switches?

It happens all the time. EVERYWHERE. No one states they can out coach PC. Not one situation mentioned is stuff not 2nd guessed by fans at every level. It's fans who love their team blowing off stress... only being able to watch and fret, cheer, moan, and sometimes commiserate together. But, thx for the 20/20 hindsight / holier than thou post... Way easier than the guy having to make the decisions... but, guaranteed they do more gut wrenching 2nd guessing than we do!
