Tanner McEvoy: played sparingly at Wisconsin at QB, played well as a DB/WR for them this season DJ Gillins: so buried on the UW depth chart, volunteered to switch to WR. When asked about him, Paul Chryst said "I'm on board for the rest of the season, then let's visit it again. He's a heck of a - he's a heck of a teammate." Austin Kafentzis: Enrolled early at Wisconsin, finished spring practice 5th on the depth chart. Transferred to Nevada. Waiver to play early denied, eligible in 2016. Seth Collins: You see where I'm going here.....
G.A. can get players. They just can't throw all that well.

Be fair...A quick check on Rivals reveals that there were plenty of good teams that offered Gillins, McEvoy, and Kafentzis. If Andersen failed in the evaluation part, so did a lot of others.
What would be more alarming is if Andersen failed to develop the fellows, but I think that's what his current assistants are there for.

I think a bigger point of emphasis should be what the current OC and QB coach has done to develop the recruits that they are getting. Baldwin has done a good job developing QB's at his previous stops. I think you will see a difference next year.

A big part of the reason that GA left Wisconsin was to run his offense, and get his guys around him. He did not have that at Wisconsin. He had to run Barry-ball and I think it was reflected in the QBs he got at the time. It would be more fair to look at who he got at Utah State. It would also be more fair to see who Baldwin and McGivens have gotten in the past.

Was Seth Collins a Andersen recruit or Riley, I don't recall...
Why not give him credit for Garretson and Moran??? Both of those guys are known to have very good arms...

Seth Collins was GA's guy, however Riley had reportedly shown interested in him as a WR and if memory serves, offered him a walkon spot there. SJSU offered a schollie so he committed there until GA came calling.

It's why I sort have to laugh when people take recruiting, recruiting rankings, "expert" opinions taken in a serious fashion. Recruiting is basically a crap shoot! All of us can tell a kid who is dominating other HS players... but none can guarantee he'll make it as a student, athlete, and citizen once he attains the freedom and privileges college athletes can be handed. Let alone injuries and freak happenings that seem to pop up. On top of that timing is very crucial. If it was year 2 or 3 of the GA era at OSU I doubt Collins is recruited at all. And, if so, it's as an athlete/WR.
In some cases coaches take the best available athlete that fits anywhere in their system and then will make adjustments on the fly. Hence the large focus on JCs now... GA and staff did not especially like the 2-10 year and want immediate help. Not just to bolster the record, but to create competition, depth, and of course wins. those W's in year 2 gives credence to other recruits that this staff is indeed making progress. In this day and age you don't have the luxury of building with frosh and redshirting. You have to create results and at the same time build with youth. Right now JC's can see playing time immediately, and for guys thinking they can play at the next level (and most actually do see themselves there) with limited years left, PT is a huge selling point.
I'm hoping to see at least three more of those keys JCs sign. I would actually would have loved to see a surprise JC QB signed... maybe still possible?!

I'll give him credit once those guys play and actually do something. I don't know for sure that he recruited Garretson while at USU or if he came after he left.
