KJ... picks breaker off the dirt for RCF 2B /2-3
Gretler...shows/FC 1-5 nice play by lefty to get to decent bunt down the 3B line... poor break by KJ should be able to beat bunt fielded at 45' mark by lefty pitcher / 1-4 now

This team is just plain ol' fun to watch. No. 1 arm still recovering from TJ.... A starting outfielder from last years team is forced to redshirt - and yet look at what Beavs run out there. Pat Casey's pipeline is simply awesome. Mini-example in regard to infield position players. Carter Aldrete & George Mendazona both played for Bend Elks WCL out of high school in 2016. Mendazona looked be be the more advanced player - definitely at the plate. Yet Aldrete thrown into starting 3 games for ASU this weekend (and having his troubles) while Mendazona bides his time in the dugout, while the likes of Madrigal, Grenier and Gretler occupy his possible positions.

Has our competition been that bad or is this team that good? I have been measured in my expectations. Long season, Pac 11 grind, blah, blah blah. I think this weekend they really made a big step forward. The defense was amazing. Virtually anything hit in the air was caught. Ground balls were gobbled up. Pitching was spectacular. Once the Beavs got one run today I felt like...we got this. The other three runs were just gravy But, ASU played poorly too. They kept Jake's pitch count down a lot by first pitch swinging. Even late in the 3rd game of the series. The bobbles by the INF were constant. Speaks to a lack of fundamentals. The recruits are supposed highly rated. Just spent some time on the ASU board. Wow. They are done with Tracy Smith. Picking apart practices when only 1 or 2 people have seen a practice. I hope that whenever Pat Casey decides to retire we make a good choice in the coaching change. They have gone from Murph to Esmay to Smith. I think Esmay got to a Super Regional. I think that is the bar the Devil fans have for expectations |
