I was not aware that Jake played against Auburn two years ago while he was at Idaho. Although it may have been in a losing effort, he had a good stat line against SEC athletes. It would seem that he is a decent running threat for his size based on the rushing yards. Andersen's offense will only work when there is a threat for the qb to run effectively. I still think MM is the starter until proven otherwise but nice to have some options and competition with that position.

Too bad he's used a redshirt year already. I remember someone knocking his JC stats, but I'd take 40 TD's and 15 Int's in the first year in the system just about any time. Mannion's best year was 37 and 15 and it was his 4th year in Riley's system.
I actually like 3M's game and think he probably should have been the starter much of the last 2 years. Unfortunately for him we're essentially changing up the offense yet again this offseason it appears. It could be an interesting competition between these two.

If 3M is our starter next year we are in trouble. I love the kid's leadership and work ethic but he doesn't have the talent to be a starter. His arm is terrible. He's not accurate and it's not strong. We need Luton to step up and take the spot from 3M. Because I do agree he deserves to get the first team snaps going into spring, he did earn that.

I don't get the knock on 3m that he can't make a long throw. He made virtually every long throw we had last year that actually was caught. He didn't rely on the long pass, but he completed most (or close to it) of the ones he threw, which beat the heck out of the practically guaranteed inability to complete anything beyond 10-15 yards we saw the first half of the season. Name one college QB that can complete >50% of their passes beyond 18- 22 yards. There are probably few if any (just to double check I looked up the pro stats for balls in the air 20 yards plus, it's about 33%, only a handful of guys do 50 or better.

Wut... 3M was a 60% passer this season, which is best on this team by a country mile. 3M's last 3 games were 66.7%, 85% and 65% passing for 600 yards, 6 TDs and a single INT. His yards per attempt was nearly double any other QB at 7.6 His yards per completion were 12.7... he averaged a first down catch per catch!. Garretson average 8.45 yards per catch. out of 101 completions, 31 were for more than 15 yards and 13 were over 25 yards. most on this team by a country mile... again. Those stats also include him facing UW and Stanford on the road. 3M has a lot of refinement he needs. but figure he is basically still a freshman in development with everything he has been through.

As far as having arms goes, how would you describe Garretson as a thrower of footballs? Me personally, after watching DG throw it out of bounds for a few weeks, 3M looked like Aaron Rodgers by comparison. All relative I guess.

From the article: So Luton can't beat out the starting QB at IDAHO but thinks he can beat out 3M??? Good luck buddy, I truly hope the best QB wins the job, and that they have a great year.
Of course the last two years proves that both will likely play an in fact DG and Blount better not get to comfy on the bench... GA's offense seems to chew up QBs...

Of course the last two years proves that both will likely play an in fact DG and Blount better not get to comfy on the bench... GA's offense seems to chew up QBs... Luton came from a HS in which he rarely threw. He wasn't going to get the development he needed at Idaho. He knew that, went to the JC route. And once he got comfortable in the offense was able to show what he could do. He wasn't going to be given a chance at Idaho, is what I believe he really meant by wouldn't beat out their starter
GA's offense seems to chew up QBs?!?! Let see, in 2015 no QBs were injured playing. Collins was hurt in practice, warming up. In 2016 Garretson and Blount were hurt on drop back passes in which they were hit behind the line. Its not like we've lost 5 QBs to injuries over the last two year due to players scrambling and running the ball too much. IMO silly comment and frankly untrue. Alternative Fact perhaps?

Montana State Bobcats Won 20-17 at Washington Huskies Lost 59-14 at Washington State Cougars Lost 56-6 at UNLV Rebels Won 33-30 (OT) Troy Trojans Lost 34-13 at ULM Warhawks Won 34-31 New Mexico State Aggies Won 55-23 at Appalachian State Mountaineers Lost 37-19 at UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns Won 23-13 at Texas State Bobcats Won 47-14 South Alabama Jaguars Won 38-31 Georgia State Panthers Won 37-12 2016 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Colorado State Rams Won 61-50 I'd bet a few paychecks we're better than 9-4 with 3M from day 1 playing that brutal schedule... and his stats would be off the charts except that we might have 2 RBs with over 1000 yards.

His release time is slow and is constantly on his back foot. Was not the best QB is any statistical category I saw except TDs and was only 54.5% overall. cccaasports.org/sports/fball/2016-17/players/jakeluton5l20?view=profileI've been promoting 3M (and taking heat for it) since Day 1. Not that he is a great QB, but was the best overall QB talent on our roster and still is. And, that comes after total BS of a QB competition the last 2 years. He has just begun to develop and get his feet wet and doing a HELL of a job both physically and mentally. If he's not a team captain there is something amiss. Kids I talk to adore the kid and how he has handled himself.

I do believe he can develop to be pretty good in this offense as well. He has been robbed of these developmental opportunities. Never given consistency, never allowed to grow and be a leader. Let him be the man and I think he is a guy that can get us W's, particularly on a team focused around power running and Wrecking Nall anyways. 3M can get the ball in the hands of some of these hot WR recruits we are grabbing. and do it accurately and smartly while minimizing turnovers.

Kids I talk to adore the kid and how he has handled himself. Although, I would assume you think poorly of Coach McGiven, he said the opposite of you in his film evaluation. That Luton has a quick release and he liked his mechanics. He also likes his potential and arm strength. Putting down Luton does not elevate 3M, just like denigrating the coaching staff does not make 3M better in my eyes. I think highly of both 3M and Luton and am optimistic that they both will have opportunities to show what they can do for the team this coming year. 3M will get the first snaps in spring ball because he has earned it with his performance the last of part of the year. You and I do not know the circumstances of all the stats for Luton, but if we had a starter like Luton that lost 1 fumble all season in 11 games I would be happy (1 of his 4 fumbles were lost). I also felt like 18 sacks in 11 games would be a slightly above average year for us. Not sure I see these as negative things, as it appears you do.
