I have heard two different answers to the same question: Is Ugwuegbu disqualified for the first half of the next game or the entire game? I heard that since he was ejected in the second half it is a complete game DQ against Stanford. Does anyone know the answer? Also where was Paul Lucas?

It's my understanding that it'd just be the first half against Stanford. Still think that's a ridiculous call - he was already launched to make the tackle when the QB dropped to give himself up - that wasn't some clear slide.

Not sure, but the way I saw it I think it was a bad call. I thought Falk was still up, not technically down. Should have slid earlier. Seems like there should be some deterrent for qb's to not get those "free" yards when the D can't touch them.

I agree that it was a bad call. Plus from my vantage point he didn't hit him square in the head. he basically went over Falk. As a sidenote the officiating was terrible the whole game. It should not take 5 minutes to review a play. Geez what's the guy in the pressbox have 3 maybe 4 camera angles to look at. The picture doesn't change the more you look at it. There needs to be a time limit. The pressbox ref and the refs on the field could have made dinner reservations and hotel reservations for next week's game as long as they were taking.

It was a horrible call.
1. Faulk started his slide *after* both Beaver players started their tackling moves. 2. The hit was shoulder to shoulder, not targeting 3. Why did they let Faulk remove his knee brace on the field? Shouldn't have that required the trainer?
The interesting "banter" from the announcers while this was happening was that Andersons boys and Faulk were best friends in Utah when Anderson was at USU.

I heard that since he was ejected in the second half it is a complete game DQ against Stanford. Does anyone know the answer? Also where was Paul Lucas? It is my understanding that he will only be disqualified for the first half against Stanford. I will also go on record to say that I thought that it was a good call. Ugwoegbu speared him straight into Falk's head. He led with the crown of his helmet straight into Falk's helmet. Ugwoegbu showed very poor form on the tackle and is lucky that he did not hurt himself on the play. While the rules are primarily to protect offensive players, they also protect defensive players from concussing themselves. If he keeps his facemask up, he sees that Falk slides, there is no targeting, and Oregon State has a much better chance to score late. Just my opinion.

I agree it was the proper call, though I'm sure Ugwuegbu had no intention of injuring Falk. Just bad luck/timing. It's important we do everything we can to protect these kids. On a side note; Falk is ONE tough dude. I respect his toughness and his game. Beavs played their hearts out, and those of us that were there heard a VERY LOUD Reser...even without those folks that just can't seem to get their asses back in their seats for the start of the 3rd. ******JMHO...that may have made a difference.******

A-n-d-e-r-s-e-n. You're right. It was a beyond horrible call. But you knew who he was referring to.

absurd call. the QBs can now sprint upfield and right before the defenders tackle them they go into a slide? BS ridiculous They can. And the defenders can tackle them, if they slide too late. But defenders cannot spear the quarterback, whether he slides or not. Ugwoegbu lowered his facemask and led with the crown of his helmet. That is a penalty, no matter where he hits Falk. (Although it is often not called.) The fact of the matter is that the crown of his helmet impacted Falk above the shoulders. That is textbook targeting. And bad fundamentals on Ugwoegbu's part. If he had kept his facemask up like he is supposed to, it probably would not have been a penalty.

Nobody so much as touched Falk's head, with any part of their person or equipment. Video is on ESPN Live. Approximately 2:56 mark. I suggest that you rewatch. Crown of the helmet impacts the side of Falk's head. What do you see?

It impacted his shoulder pad and I don't mean between the shoulder pad and the helmet. It was definitely the kind of BS call one would expect from the Batlan crew. They have three angles. Something clearly impacts Falk's head. From the third angle, it looks like the crown of the helmet impacts the side of Falk's head. ESPN does not have a slow-motion option to my knowledge. If it were on a different website, I could manipulate the feed and screen capture the hit. Can someone beside Fever weigh in?

I thought that it was a personal foul but not intentional targeting. But I still think that at that stage of the game it was a very unwise action. We killed ourselves with penalties last night and that has to be cleaned up period.

The call was made, they reviewed it, and they kicked him out. Andersen on the postgame show concurred with that assessment. I agree that it's a tough rule, but that's the way it's been called in just about every game I've watched this season.

Don't get me wrong - I don't like the ejection, I don't want anyone to get hurt, I get that today's game is all about protecting the QB so we are going to come out on the wrong side of that one nearly every single time (even if I disagree with the call).
BUT.. Part of me actually likes this. Our guys are starting to fly around a little bit, we're giving out the hits instead of receiving the hits. Little more swagger right now, a little more physical. This time last year Falk would have slid and 4 of our guys would stand there and look at each other with their hands in their pockets. We're getting there.
